Who is Meteorologist Jeff Masters, the Man Behind the Snowpocalypse, Global Warming "connection?"

Marc Schenker
Just who is meteorologist Jeff Masters, the man behind the dubious Snowpocalypse, global warming "connection" that so many liberals like MSNBC's Dylan Ratigan, Time Magazine and the New Republic have been quoting to spread their global warming propaganda? Over the last few days, in coincidence with Snowpocalypse, the blizzards in the mid-Atlantic that have handed the region its snowiest winter ever, many liberal ideologues have abused the occasion to falsely connect the record snowfall to "proof" of global warming. We've all seen the scientifically challenged rant of Dylan Ratigan on his ultra low-rated show that no one watches and heard of Time Magazine's desperate attempt to misuse Snowpocalypse as verification of global warming. Neither is a scientist, so that begs the logical question, Just where are these liberals getting this bogus connection to global warming from? Enter Jeff Masters, a so-called meteorologist attached to the University of Michigan's Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences Department.

Probably the first salvo in the liberal plot to politicize and capitalize on Snowpocalypse has so far been MSNBC host Dylan Ratigan's scientifically challenged harangue, trying to convince the one or two viewers who actually watch him that all that record snowfall really means the planet is actually getting hotter. Insane, right? Crazy, yes? Totally out of his everloving mind, huh?

According to Ratigan, however, in some weird, Superman-style, Bizarro universe where up is down and left is right and correct is incorrect...Snowpocalypse indicates global warming because higher air temperatures on the earth have a greater capacity to hold moisture...then as winter comes in, that warm air cools full of water, thus resulting in heavier precipitation on a regular basis. And, thus, the Snowpocalypse sweeping the mid-Atlantic! Or, he may just be on drugs, or something, too, since that explanation sounded like a stream-of-consciousness thought process belonging to someone not of sound mind, but you never know, I suppose. Isn't it cute when lowly rated, very unpopular, liberal hosts try to play Bill Nye the Science Guy Jr., minus the actual science part, of course? As you'll see when you read on, this thought process comes from the meteorologist, Jeff Masters, the only, lone source I could find for this claim.

Not happy to leave the global warming exaggeration and extrapolation to only Al Gore-shill Ratigan, Time magazine joined the exploitation bandwagon by actually having one of their writers/reporters/propagandists by the name of Bryan Walsh actually go farther and assert that such Snowpocalypses could be more common due to global warming! Whaaaaaaat? Being the model of hard research that he is, Walsh went to the blog of some so-called meteorologist by the name of Jeff Masters who points out that Snowpocalypse has already produced two blizzards that are the heaviest on record. And like Ratigan's aforementioned BS, this so-called meteorologist claims that hotter air holds more moisture, therefore the massive snowfall during the storms. This kind of asinine logic is basically an insult to the intelligence since it is oxymoronic at best, but that's the liberal mentality for you. Again, as Michael Savage says, "Liberalism is a mental disorder."

Another liberal source peddling this oxymoronic nonsense about Snowpocalypse somehow proving global warming as accurate is the rag called The New Republic. Disturbingly, in an article by one Bradford Plumer, the same, questionable source, Jeff Masters, is the lone origin cited for the very suspicious correlation between the excessively heavy snowfall in the mid-Atlantic and the Al Gore-peddled hoax known as global warming.

So it seems to me, and hopefully other coherent people, that the liberals have put all their hopes in the claims of this one, lonely voice in the wilderness, Jeff Masters, to peddle this very questionable and probably totally wrong extrapolation to global warming as it relates to Snowpocalpyse. Is Jeff Masters qualified, though, to assert what he asserted on his blog, which was rather ideologically and carelessly picked up by the aforementioned bastions of liberal thought?

A read-through of Masters' biography on his oh-so cool blog indicates that he has a Ph.D. degree in meteorology. But the real question is, Is that enough to make him a qualified source on a supposed Snowpocalypse, global warming connection? I don't know, but it seems awfully fishy to me that he's not a climatologist, as in "climate scientist," as in the branch of science called climatology, which is more authoritative concerning global warming (climate change) analysis since it deals with weather conditions over a period of time. Masters is a mere meteorologist; meteorology is a study which concerns itself with forecasting weather patterns. In my opinion, the difference between the two distinctions of study is great, in fact, too great for him to be considered an authority here as the liberal sources would like you to believe, however.

The guy that wrote this article must have no background in science. Your words are powerful. Too bad there's no scientific truth in your propaganda prose. Look up the ClausiusClapeyron equation to see warmer temperatures means more water vapor in the air.

It seems awfully fishy to me that your quibbling about the meteorologist/climatologist distinction. See what the training for both of these psychical sciences are. Both have the same background.

The connection is obvious to anyone who did not sleep through middle school science. For those who did, I'll break it down in simple terms. When the climate gets hotter, there is more evaporation. Evaporation means moisture in the air. Moisture means more rain and snow. The hotter things get, the more moisture, the more precipitation. Also, local weather is not the same as global climate. It's night where I am, therefore the sun has exploded and anyone who claims other wise must be a quack! Quick, get me on Fox news so I can prove there is not such thing as "tomorrow"!

Thank you for writing this article. It's very informative.

temperature which is the snow you are experiencing is not same as climate. We are in the north in Canada and our winter has been very mild. Climate is the average of the entire earth's temperature

Does anyone believe that global warming is man made? I'd like to sell you a piece of land real cheap. I'll show it to you during low tide at a local beach.

I am one liberal who agrees with you. This so-called global warming happened 11000 years ago. Was that caused by men burning too many camp fires? However, I see no harm in efforts to clean up our air as long as it does not interfere with our economic recovery.

I'm sure you have been in undeveloped areas like the Appalachian trail. No sounds of cars or trucks. Away from the noise of the city. It is wonderful.

  • Agnes Farside2/12/2010

More snow than normal and it's proof positive that there is global warming..Yeah Right.

  • Joe2/12/2010

It's Dr. Jeff Masters. I'm sure you read the article it's unfortunate that you didn't understand it.

Global warming is responsible for pretty much everything these days. Believe it, and I have a bridge to sell you!
