This book by Dr. Spencer Johnson is the simplest, finest, an amazingly straightforward and the most inspiring of all the inspirational books I have ever read so far, well, apart from The Alchemist!
Then, there are the seven wonderful punch lines, which would remain with you for quite a long time after you had completed reading this book.
This is the story of two little people, Hem and Haw and two little mice, Sniff and Scurry: their life and living and the lesson(s) the little people had learned from the little mice, which is a lesson to us all...
The whole story is power packed, capsule sized, quick read (takes less than an hour to read) and the lessons are loosely packed in such a simplified form as though that of teaching of the alphabets to the nursery children!
- C for Cheese and Change
- F for fear and (to) feel free
- H for Hem and Haw
- L for Life
- P for (be) prepared
- R for ready to move on and relationships
- S for Sniff and Scurry and
- W for Work and who moved my Cheese?
Change Happens:
- They keep moving the cheese
- Anticipate change:
- Get ready for the cheese to move
- Monitor Change:
- Smell the cheese often so you know when it is getting old
- Adapt to change quickly:
- The quicker you let go of old cheese, the sooner you can enjoy new cheese
- Move with the cheese
- Enjoy Change:
- Savor the adventure and enjoy the taste of new cheese!
- Be ready to change quickly and enjoy it again:
- They keep moving the cheese
Then, there are the seven wonderful punch lines, which would remain with you for quite a long time after you had completed reading this book.
- What would you do if you weren't afraid?
- I keep doing the same things over and over again and wonder why things don't get better
- Sometimes, things change and they are never the same again...That's life! Life moves on. And so should we.
- When you move beyond your fear, you feel free
- ...the biggest inhibitor to change lies within yourself, and that nothing gets better until you change
- There is always New Cheese out there whether you recognize it at the time or not. And you are rewarded with it when you go past your fear and enjoy the adventure.
- Denial. Sometimes, we are not even aware that we are afraid.
