Who Owns Yahoo?

Anyone who has used a computer has probably used yahoo before, and maybe you are one of those people like me who has used yahoo for years and even has a yahoo e-mail address but don't now anything about yahoo and what yahoo is. In this article we will look at what yahoo is and who owns yahoo.

Yahoo is an internet, computer software public corporation based in the United States that is more popular for its web portal, yahoo mail, yahoo directory , search engine, social, news and media websites and a host of other services that yahoo provides. Yahoo is the brain child of its two founder members David Filo and Jerry Yang who were both Ph.D. candidates in electrical Engineering at the university of Stanford, the company was founded the 1st of march 1995 in Santa Clara, California, USA.

Yahoo started off as a student hobby but it has grown in leaps and bounds to become a global phenomenon that has revolutionized the way people communicate, buy things and access information. The whole concept began in a campus trailer in Feb 1994, it began as a way of keeping track of their personal and educational interests on the internet, the hobby developed over time as they devoted less time to their doctorial dissertations and more of their time to coming up with a home brewed list of their best and favorite links, and before long the lists had become long and winding so they had to break them into categories, and this gave rise to sub-categories when the original categories became full and this how the concept of yahoo was born. And ever since then the company has never looked back and is now one of the biggest internet and software companies in the world and is currently operating on a annual revenue of $7.22 billion and has an operating income of $1.03 billion, and as of 2008 it is employing about 13,800 employees.

Although yahoo started off as a search engine it diversified into a web portal, around the same time that other web [portals such as MSN, Excite, and Lycos etc were growing in size.

Yahoo is a public corporation that means that it is not owned by anyone or group but it is owned by share holders this are people who buy shares in the company, yahoo is listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange were it sells its shares to the public. Yahoo is currently being run by its founder members Jerry Yang who is a co-founder and the chief executive officer, Roy J. Bostock who is the current chairman, David Filo , co-founder, and Susan Decker who is the current president.

When did yahoo get so "conservative", I suspect some crazies bought yahoo recently. I am curious about this but this article does little to help me understand who is behind these "news" stories. I've noticed a change over the past few weeks.

Good to see we have more ideots and morons on this website as well. You liberals can start paying taxes, then pay my bills, as I am a disabled veteran who cant work any longer.

Proffesor have you ever held a real job?

Yahoo better wise up. Conservatives use it continually, but if they like the mainstream media get on to the ideot bandwagon, then they will loose huge business. Oh for all you libs out there go screw yourselves. I did not serve 35 years in the military for you lazy pieces of ...to make me pay for you. !!!!

Yahoo's shareholders need to do a little butt chewing about the news content. 2 to 3 days is a long time for a news story to be posted. 5 and longer days means somebody is not getting the job done!

I can't believe what I'm reading - oh wait, it is yahoo, isn't it? Most of the bad mouthing here is from the viewpoint of the left, griping about how far right yahoo is? Seriously? It has about as left a slant as it can get without falling over to the left. I can see how the schools leaned where you received your education:.

I, too, am offended by Yahoo News. It appears to have become a radical right-wing instrument. In fact, it now seems to have become a print version of Fox News. Unfortunately, I have used Yahoo e-mail for years, and it may be difficult to move everything to another e-mail provider, but I will no longer have Yahoo as my home page. I have also canceled my subscription to the failing Yahoo Shine, which I recently learned has been bought by Rupert Murdoch from....wait for it.... his darling daughter, who evidently has as much of a head for business as her father and his underlings have for the truth.

please, yahoo is way to the left.

OK, nice to see it's not just me. I just had my account suspended for responding to some over the top right wing propaganda in the politics section. I see the same people bashing the left over and over again but THEY don't get kicked out. Yet, when I respond with my left wing point of view I get BANNED!! I'm officially boycotting yahoo...

I've always gotten my news from Yahoo. Lately, I have noticed that Yahoo has nothing positive to say about the President. I am offended by Yahoo news. I know it wont matter to yahoo but I will no longer have them as my homepage. but I will change it. Shame on you Yahoo.
