Who is Pam from the Hit Show, 'The Office'?

Julie Wimmer
Pam Beesly, on "The Office," is a lovable character. She's smart, but not too smart, and she's cute which makes everyone want to smile when she looks at them. She married the cute, fun guy, Jim, from "The Office" who everyone also likes, even though some probably wouldn't admit it. Pam likes to play little office jokes, she loves talking to the camera, since this show is "mockumentary" style, and she gets along with everyone,or at least, she believes it.

So who is the actress who plays Pam on "The Office"? Her name is Jenna Fischer, but, if you are a fan, you probably already know that. Fischer was born in March, on the 7th in 1974 in the city of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Her mother was an acting teacher, so the acting gene was in her bones. She even started taking classes, with her mother as the teacher, when she was six.

Fischer went to Truman State University in Missouri, receiving a bachelor's degree in Theater. During the time she was in college, she worked with a touring "Murder Mystery Dinner Theater" troop. After college, she made her way to Los Angeles - actors either travel west to California or east to New York city. Since it is hard to get a break when you start out, Fischer temped for five years in an office. Sounds like pretty good practice for her part on "The Office."

In 2004, Fischer actually wrote, directed and starred in her own film, "Lollilove." The movie was about a fortunate couple, wealthy and well known, that help homeless people.

Fischer has many award accolades such as a 2007 Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy series (for "The Office), and has been nominated five times for the Screen Actors Guild Awards: Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, and won two of the times (2006 and 2007).

Fischer did not get into acting easily. Her first acting job was a sex video for mental patients once they were going to be released from the hospital - not exactly what young actors dream about when hoping to become a TV or film actor. Fischer did, however, have some small parts here and there in shows such as "Six Feet Under" on HBO and "That Seventies Show" on Fox. She also had parts in some indie films, such as "The Specials."

Her movie, mentioned above, "Lollilove," was so difficult to write and produce that she realized she just wanted to act. After many auditions, she landed the part of Pam Beesly on "The Office."

Fischer was married to her second husband, Lee Kirk, a screenwriter, in 2010. Fischer loves being on "The Office" although her other passion is animals, and she is very involved in organizations like Rescue Rover.

Fischer never aspired to be a huge movie star, just a working actor, but I think she is both. Best of luck to her in her fantastic career.

"The Office" can be seen on Thursday nights on NBC.

Thanks for the info. I actually bought LolliLove online a year or two ago, because I couldn't find it to rent anywhere. I thought it would be really funny. It wasn't that great even though I'm a Jenna Fischer fan. I understand it was her first attempt to direct a movie, etc, but I probably wouldn't watch it again. Sorry Jenna! :)
