Who is Seth Petruzelli?

Seth Petruzelli was a little known, 28-year-old mixed martial arts fighter on the morning of Saturday, October 4. By the morning of Sunday, October 5, however, his nickname, "The Silverback" was echoing throughout sports broadcasts all over the country. Seth Petruzelli, with his 6 foot tall, 205 lb frame felled the undefeated internet sensation Kimbo Slice, who stands over him at 6'2" and nearly 240 lbs.

But who is exactly is Seth Petruzelli? Very little was known about him before Saturday's event - an event that he wasn't even scheduled to fight in to begin with. But after Kimbo's opponent, Ken Shamrock suffered an injury while training, Petruzelli stepped up to take on the popular street fighter that is Kimbo Slice. And against all odds, he was successful. Not only did he win the bout by a TKO over Kimbo, breaking his undefeated streak, but he did it all in 14 seconds, too.

Despite the fact that very few fans of mixed martial arts even knew about Seth Petruzelli, he is no stranger to the sport. He entered Saturday's contest against Slice with a record of 9 wins and 4 losses - which is really not all that bad in the brutal sport of mixed martial arts. His in gaining recognition is the fact that he never fought with any big name fighters, and none of his matches were highly publicized by any means. But none of this really mattered to Petruzelli; as far as he was concerned, his short career in the sport was all but finished anyway, and he had already moved on to other ventures.

After his previous fight in October of 2007 (which was a TKO victory against Sean Sallee), Seth took some time off to open his own Smoothie King franchise in Winter Springs, Florida with his wife. Despite his win and his sudden vault into mixed martial arts fame, the couple plans to open another one in San Diego, California within the year. And he's certainly going to have the money to fund it, too, that's for sure.

Seth Petruzelli is the new face to look up to for underdogs of every sport. Nobody thought the pink-haired, unknown ex-kick boxer would defeat the tougher-than-nails Kimbo Slice, but he did. And it just goes to show that you should never count a man out before he's down - especially not in the world of professional mixed martial arts, and especially not if the guy has pink hair.
