He has earned legendary status among millions of people who watch the program, who either want the identity of the racing and car test driver revealed or not... more so not!
Legend or not the true identity of The Stig was possibly revealed with many legal rumblings circulating around the BBC and the man himself, or was the 'identity reveal' all just a spot of publicity?
Many have been introduced as the racing driver on the actual 'Top Gear ' program or off on a tangent somewhere in TV land. In fact many viral videos have been submitted to YouTube showing off a possibility or two as to who The Stig might be.
Among the famous names who have donned the famous white racing suit and helmet of Stig are F1 racing drivers Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher.
The Stigster had even been killed off way back in 2003 onboard, or should I say off-board the British Navy Aircraft Carrier HMS Invincible, where the driver apparently drove off the edge of the ship while trying to reach a top speed of 100mph before stopping. Wearing the unfamiliar black suit and driving a customized Jaguar at the time of the incident that was shown on TV, which was apparently the end before a dramatic return. See this YouTube Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4x0Dz00csA&feature=related
At the end of the day it is probably better now that the series has progressed with the power of The Stig being of such legendary status that his identity isn't revealed... or is it?
One answer to the question, who is The Stig?
Apparently Ben Collins a little known Formula 3 driver from the UK revealed himself as the iconic Stig but with all the publicity surrounding the identity, the possible legal action and the hype, can it be trusted that Ben Collins was actually the racing driver in question? http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/michaeldeacon/100051941/the-stig-v-the-bbc-3-questions/
Maybe it was all just a massive stunt to put people off the trail, maybe someone got just a little too close to revealing the real truth as to who is The Stig. For now the BBC have still got the legend and hero test driving vehicles for the program 'Top Gear', and maybe it will be a long time before the true identity is revealed... who knows, maybe we will just find that there are several Stig's in the world, maybe they are all clones?
