Who are the The Oceanic 6 on ABC's Lost?

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the upcoming premiere of Lost: The Returnand for Season Four episodes. If you don't want to know, click away.

The Oceanic Six are said to be the six castaways that actually make it off the island on Season Four. Two of the six have been confirmed by a recent article in Entertainment Weekly.

What is known is that the six probably will not make it off the island in the premiere episode, since there is a lot to sort out with Ben and the new group of people showing up on the mysterious island.

So show are the Oceanic 6 and how do we know they get off the island?

#1 Oceanic 6 on ABC's Lost: Jack

We learned at the end of Season Three that two of the Oceanic Six are Jack and Kate. ABC's Lost threw viewers a fun curve ball when they slowly realized this was not a flashback, but a flash forward.

"We weren't supposed to leave," Jack tells Kate.

But don't worry, Lost fans, even though Jack leaves the island, it is also clear that he will be getting back on the island at some point.

"We have to get from the island to that point in the future before it can become a real threat again. But it can become a threat again - and it will," Matthew Fox told Entertainment Weekly.

What is not clear is if Jack was forced off the island or not.

#2 Oceanic 6 on ABC's Lost: Kate

From the same flash forward scene in the last episode of Season Three we also know that Kate gets off the island. There is a lot of tension between Kate and Jack, and the audience is left wondering what the pair are lying about, and why being back is so hard.

''I'm sick of lying. We made a mistake'," Jack tells Kate.

#3 Oceanic 6 on ABC's Lost: Jin

While the flash forward twist is interesting, it has also helped reveal Season 4 Spoilers. By piecing together who is at the center of the episode, with the flashback or flash forward information, it is easy to figure out who gets off the island.

Episode 79, which is Episode seven of Season Four, involves Jin in a city, carrying items you may normally bring to a child. This is a flash forward episode.

#4 Oceanic 6 on ABC's Lost:Sun

From the flash forward in episode 7 we know that Sun also gets off the island. There have also been indicators that Sun and Jin have a bigger role to play in the big picture than we have been lead to believe.

#5 Oceanic 6 on ABC's Lost:Sayid

Episode three is a flash forward episode with Sayid that would imply that he also makes it off the island. According to Watch With Kristen, Sayid identifies himself as one of the Oceanic Six and mentions a monetary settlement he received because of the crash of flight Oceanic 815.

#6 Oceanic 6 on ABC's Lost: Hurley

Hurley is number six. We find out about Hurley getting off the island in the Season Four premiere of the show. The premiere includes flash forward scenes with Hurley.

Disclaimer: This article was written in January 2008. It was based on available information, articles and video. It also includes conjecture. I can live with five out of six.

    What's "Lost?"

April: "why are the ones who have more to lose by being public as one of the 6 out there?" that is a great question. :-)

I think that the Oceanic 6 are only the survivors that can publicly be acknowledged. It appears that Jin is being forced to stay under cover, but he tried to send a message to Sun after she gave birth. The question is, why are the ones who have more to lose by being public as one of the 6 out there, and innocents like Claire in hiding. More than 6 survived, I think. What are they hiding? And, is everyone being paid off to play their role?

Thank You!!! I felt like I was the only person in the world that noticed that. . .

Interesting, John. There have also been discussions about seat numbers, but they didn't all match.

  • john 3/24/2008

has nobody discussed the fact that there are six survivors and six numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, & 42. just thought i would bring that up

Of course, Jin may be alive, but still on the island, as some people obviously are in the future. Who knows? It's clear that the spoilers got it wrong this time (probably due to the confusing nature of the flash forwards/backwards in the Jin/Sun episode). It's likely Aaron (Oceanic Six makes a good name for the whole group of survivors that the media could use, even if technically inaccurate in his case), but it's not entirely clear yet.

I'm sorry, your Oceanic 6 are wrong. The shots of Jin buying a teddy bear are a flash-back of when he was working for Sun's father. He makes it off of the island, but not alive. If you read the tombstone at the very end, it says he died on September 22 of 2004, the day Oceanic crashes.

Juan, I think Claire dies. Desmond may only see possible futures, who knows?
