Who Are the Top Quarterbacks in College Football Today?

Tracy Simpson
In order they are:

(1) JOHN DAVID BOOTY - USC

The top college football QB in 2007, Booty is carrying on the tradition of stellar Trojan quarterbacks. While not as tactical as Carson Palmer or glitzy as Matt Leinart, Booty's qualities are a tad more subtle, yet similarly effective. Many, including myself, expect USC to be in New Orleans playing for the national title in January of 2008. If that happens, it will be based largely on the exploits of Mr. John David Booty. Look for the USC anthem to get played and played a LOT in 2007 and early in 2008.

** PAT WHITE - WEST VIRGINIA

White is certainly the complete opposite of Booty in terms of style, but no less effective. When it comes to a recent college quarterback, White is in terms of his legs since Michael Vick's days at VT. However, White's passing is undervalued as White possesses the arm strength and accuracy to carry a team through the air. Simply put, White is just a football player and a natural winner, and if things fall right, he could be one of the two starting quarterbacks vying for the national title eight months from now. The gap between #1 and #2 is razor-thin as White may be the most feared QB in the game today.

** BRIAN BROHM - LOUISVILLE

Brohm's decision to spurn the NFL and bring his talents back to Louisville was one of the biggest off-season stories in NCAA football. Brohm is arguably the most accurate passer in the college game today and capable of throwing up huge numbers in the UL system, now under the leadership of Steve Kragthorpe, who shares the same love for winging the football as Bobby Petrino. A couple aspects of Brohm's game keeps him at #3 and that is injuries and road wins. Brohm has a long history of injuries and is known for being rather fragile. Secondly, while Brohm has a huge BCS bowl win under his belt, he has struggled to lead his team to huge victories on the road, losing disappointing games to South Florida, Rutgers, and West Virginia over the past 2 seasons.

** COLT BRENNAN - HAWAII

Brennan actually tops the list for many people when it comes to the premiere QB in NCAA football. I have Brennan rated at #4 due in large part to the level of competition he plays and my doubts about his standing within a BCS conference. The Rainbow Warriors have not missed a beat after Timmy Chang, holder of numerous records, departed and Brennan is the obvious reason. Colt possesses a quick release of the football and good, if not great, zip. Look for Brennan to almost assuredly end up as an NFL 1st round draft pick .

** CHAD HENNE - MICHIGAN

During most seasons, a QB like Henne would not be this far down any list of top QB's in college football. The #5 ranking is not an indictment of Henne, but an endorsement of the depth at quarterback in NCAA football. Henne, like Brennan, has a quick release and a live arm. He also possesses outstanding accuracy and is an excellent decision-maker. A lot of attention will be paid to Henne in '07 as many will be looking to see if he takes the next step as a QB and wins the big games and gets his team to the BCS title game.

Those are our top 5 college QB's in the NCAA game today .......... and we're sticking to it. Come see us around January 10.
