Some facts and information about UNI [University of Northern Iowa], a team playing in the NCAA Tournament this year will help you become better acquainted with the University and its students.

UNI is a small, state-supported university that offers more than 120 majors across the colleges of Business Administration, Edition, Humanities and Fine Arts, Natural Sciences and Social and Behavioral sciences. It also offers graduate college.

Ninety-two percent of the students are from Iowa with an enrollment more than 13,000 undergrads and almost 2,000 grad students. UNI has consistently been named one of the "Best In The Midwest" in the Princeton Review Best 351 College Rankings guide. UNI's accounting program ranks among the top 10 universities in the nation for the pass rate of first-time candidates on the CPA Exam.

Class sizes are small with usually less than 30 students and are taught mostly by faculty, not teaching assistants. The campus is located in Cedar Falls, which is also connected to Waterloo, Iowa. These cities are located in northeastern Iowa.

The "Panthers," nickname for the sports teams have been doing well the past few years. A variety of sports are offered and UNI is greatly supported by the surrounding community.

Many students travel abroad during study for their master's degrees. UNI provides an opportunity for students to study in more than 40 countries and select from more than 500 programs. Students may also choose to take part in summer and short term programs abroad. The University also offers research internship and student teaching opportunities abroad.

Although the UNI campus is located within Cedar Falls and near Waterloo, many students attending are from the rural areas of Iowa. The capitol of Iowa, Des Moines, is located a couple hours southwest of campus and Cedar Rapids lies directly south on highway 380, about an hour away. The state of Iowa is the connecting point for Interstates 35 and 80 that travel north and south, east and west.

The purple panthers of UNI have won their first game and look forward to meeting Kansas in the Tourney.
