The iPod Nano camera lens is in such an awkward location. When you take movies, because the camera does not take still photos, fingers always get in the way. The Nano is so small that you can only handle it with you fingers. The natural curving tendencies of the uninvolved fingers when handling something with only a few of your fingers result in a movie filled with fingers. Plus, whoever heard of a camera that did not take still photos? What's up with that? The video quality was not too bad. I would not throw away my flip camera though. The iPod Nano's video filter are so useless. Who selected these filters and why? Cyborg, a gridded Terminator type vision filter, Film Grain, an old black and white grainy film filter, and the Thermal filter lets you view the heat aura of the subjects body (Being a guy, I can think of a few uses for this filter. None of them are movie editing related). How often do you see video edited with these filter?
Apple enlarged the new iPod Nano's video screen a whopping 0.2 inches wider...wow! If any of your pocket lint dust accumulates along the edges of this new larger screen, this massive screen enlargement will be shot. Plus the screen is so small; you will go cross-eyed if you watch it for any extended period of time or tried to read the writing on the cover art.
The voice recording mic is on the back of the iPod Nano, along with the camera lens. If you have to lay it down to record notes, you stand a chance of scratching and damaging the screen. The ability to pause and rewind up to 15 minutes of live radio is a nice feature but the sound quality from the built-in FM radio is bad. For its size, the Nano volume is a bit remarkable which is helpful when utilizing the Nike+ compatibility. I like being able to theme and soundtrack my workout some days, but the sound quality is tin canny.
This semi tweaked version of the iPod Nano was not impressive at all. May be it's my big hands which made it so unappealing. It is a very dainty appliance and rather feminine. But the other things which comes to mind is my cell phone does all of the same things plus more. What do I need a new iPod Nano for?
