Who Will Be the Next Miley Cyrus: Demi Lovato or Selena Gomez?

Miley Cyrus is the ultimate teen queen... for now. Miley skyrocketed to fame with her hit Disney Channel original series, Hannah Montana. The show then spun off DVDs, hit CDs and eventually sold-out concerts. Miley's popularity reached a feverish pitch when desperate parents were shelling out thousands of dollars for coveted tickets to a Miley Cyrus concert.

But as usually happens with sudden popularity, the backlash begins. And pretty soon, the media and fans are looking for any little thing to show that their Little Miss Perfect is not so perfect anymore. Of course, Miley didn't help matters much by choosing to not be more discreet with her private life. But in an age where teenagers live their lives online and are used to strangers gawking at photos of themselves and all their private thoughts being on display, well it's not too surprising that things turned out the way they did.

For Miley Cyrus, her downfall has been photos of herself that have surfaced everywhere from celebrity gossip sites to magazines. And although it's highly doubtful that it's Miley herself who is releasing these photos, it's probably true that it is someone from Miley's inner circle.

We have seen photos of Miley Cyrus in her bra, Miley Cyrus in the shower and Miley Cyrus cuddling up to boys who are much to old to be romantically involved with the 15 year old. But perhaps the most famous Miley Cyrus photo scandal of them all was the semi-nude shot of Miley Cyrus from the Vanity Fair cover earlier this year. The photo seemed to catch Miley and her family by surprise and Miley kept a somewhat low-profile for a while.

But although Miley Cyrus's popularity still remains very high, it seems that Disney is already grooming the next teen queen to take over when Miley finally steps down. There have been rumors that Miley is growing tired of doing Hannah Montana and some sources have even gone as far as to say that both Miley Cyrus and her father, Billy Ray Cyrus are trying to get fired from the show.

So when Miley Cyrus does move away from Disney and into doing her own thing, who will be there to wear the crown next? Well, right now the two biggest contenders are Selena Gomez, star of Wizards of Waverly Place and Demi Lovato, star of Camp Rock. Both are major breakout stars in their own right, and appropriately enough they're even best friends. But there can only be on teen queen, so which one is it going to be?

At this point, my guess would be that Demi Lovato would be the one to take over, as she seems to have a more diverse career. Demi has done movies, is working on her own Disney Channel series and just released a wildly popular album. Of course, Selena Gomez has managed to generate a lot of buzz recently with rumors that she is dating the youngest Jonas Brother, Nick Jonas and also just released a new DVD, Another Cinderella Story. I guess we'll just have to see how this one plays out.
