Who Will Win the 2009 Wimbledon Grand Slam Tennis

The Competition Between the Top Six Tennis Players Looks Competitive

Richard McDuff
The 2009 Wimbledon Tennis Grand Slam starts on June 22nd. This is one of the greatest tennis matches to follow. I always like to predict who will win the Wimbledon Tennis Championship. Last year I was wrong, as I predicted that Federer would win, after all he had beaten Rafael Nadal in 2006 and 2007.

Nadal is questionable to almost non-existent for the repeating of his Wimbledon title. This will be a genuine disappointment for viewers of the 2009 Wimbledon Tennis Championship. Everyone who viewed the 2008 Wimbledon, will agree that it was one of the most exciting, if not the most exciting Wimbledon matches I had every watched. This should leave the competition wide open for Federer or another champion. Federer has won 5 out of the last 6 Wimbledon Grand Slams. The man to watch this year will be Andy Murray. It will be exciting if he could win in his own backyard. Sleepy little Britain will be cheering loudly.

1) Roger Federer (Rank - 2) - Roger has won 5 of the last 6 Wimbledon tennis matches. The 2008 Wimbledon was a classic between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. After Roger was trailing by 2 sets, he won the next 2 sets only to lose in the 5th set 7-9. He is a very cool player that does not let his emotions take over his playing for a prolonged period of time.

2) Rafael Nadal (Rank - 1)- He should probably win this year, but his early exit in the French Open because of a knee injury, leaves his defense of his Wimbledon Championship in question. Rafael Nadal has had his knees wrapped in several Tourneys. It will be interesting to see if he can pull off another Wimbledon championship. To see him go out early in the French Open is disconcerning, considering he has dominated the French Open for years, raises some questions about his health.

3)Andy Murray (Rank - 3) - Andy Murray has good luck against Federer in 2009 - Andy has beaten Roger Federer in the semi-finals of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open and the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open. Andy Murray has beaten Rafael Nadal in the finals of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament Andy Murray could be the one to take the Wimbledon this year.

4) Novak Djokovic (Rank - 4) - Always close, but does not quite have enough to win. His ranking points as of May 25 are 8830 just 190 behind Andy Murray and 4000 points a head of Juan Martin Del Potro. He has won the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championship, Djokovic has beaten Roger Federer in the Sony Ericsson Open only to lose to Andy Murray in the Finals. In the Internazionali BNL d'Italia Djokovic beat Roger Federer in the semi-finals, only to have Rafael Nadal beat Novak in the finals.

5) Juan Martin Del Potro (Rank - 5) - The only tournament that Juan Martin Del Potro has won in 2009 is the Heineken Open. Juan has been beaten by Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and others in tournaments this year.

6) Andy Roddick (Rank - 6) - I am listing Andy Roddick because he has played in the Wimbledon Finals against Roger Federer in 2004 and 2005. Roddick has won the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships this year. He has been beaten by Andy Murray, Roger Federer (twice) and Rafael Nadal. Andy Roddick has proven that thou shalt not live by the heavy serve alone.

I think that one of these six players will be in the finals, a challenger can come from any ranking.

I think Federer will win Wimbledon for his 15th career Grand Slam. Murray also has a good chance, and if he makes it far, he will be the fan-favorite.
