Let's recap last year's playoff run. First, they play the Milwaukee Brewers winning the League Divisional Series 3-1. They then moved onto Championship Series where they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 4-1 sweep. During the World Series they faced the Tampa Bay Rays who didn't throw up much of a fight seeing how they lost the series 4-1. That was only the second time the Phillies had won the World Series. Now onto why I think they will repeat their World Series win.
This team has had yet another good season. As of now they are playing the Colorado Rockies in the first round of the playoffs. If they win they will have to win one more set of games before they play in the playoffs. I think that in the end it will be the Red Sox and the Phillies in the World Series. My prediction is that the Phillies will win the series 4-2.
Based on what I've seen during the season, the Phillies could pull off another win. They have been hot at times and horrible other times. It depends if they are hitting well. They have a lot of big hitters such as Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, and Carlos Ruiz. They have a great outfield consisting of Ryan Howard at first base, either Eric Bruntlett or Chase Utley at second base, and Pedro Feliz or Greg Dobbs at third. Ryan Howard has a dangerous hit and if the pitcher messes up, it's most likely out of there.
The Red Sox also have the potential to do well in the playoffs. Their pitchers are confident and ready to throw good games. They are playing the Angels in the Divisional Series. Although this team will probably make it to the top, I don't think they will beat the Phillies in the World Series. This team has many World Series wins under their belts, plus they have a great history of players including Babe Ruth.
But in the end I feel the Phillies have the power to beat their opponents and pick up their third World Series win. Although this is just a prediction, I feel that this is the right way to go.
