Who Will Win American Idol?

Daniel Lee
We have all waited for this moment. Well not everyone has waited for this moment but it has been a long season and now we are down to two finalists on American Idol and I know one thing is for sure. David will win. The question though it which David will win. Will it be the 17 year old kid with a voice that the judges love or the 25 year old rocker who can change any song to fit his voice? They both have advantages over each other but every advantage that one David has is a disadvantage to the other David. At this point of the show your voice does not matter. What matters is your popularity and who you can appeal to.

David Cook has the advantage of being a rocker. Anyone who watches the show that does not like a baled will like David Cook. David has tried to expand from just singing rock music and it helped that last week Simon picked a song for him that showed us that David Cook can sing whatever. David also has the advantage that some people hate David Archuleta because he is a teenager that sings the same type of song over and over again. David Cook also has the advantage that mostly everyone who is over the age of 20 and does not obsess about how cute David Archuleta may be will vote for him. That is a huge demographic. David Cook will need to perform a rock song tonight as well as something milder to bring in those people who do not like rock music.

David Archuleta has the advantage of being the cute teen. Every teenager and younger who watch this show, especially the girls, love David Archuleta and they will vote with every single phone in their house. They will call their friends to vote and their friends will call their friends and so on. David also can gain the advantage of the older demographic. I am not going to put an age frame for this but this age frame consists of anyone who likes their music slow and can not stand when rock music is coming out of the speakers. A disadvantage that David Archuleta has is that he only can sing one type of music. He tried to sing a pop song last week and it did not go well but that was David Archuleta's way of trying to pull in different types of people.

The producers of the show also play a big part in who will win. If the producers have decided who they want to win (they want one David to win over the other because they want the CD they produce to sell) then they will give them an advantage. If Simon goes off bashing or even starts congratulating one of the David's after a song that can affect the voter's opinions of the singers. If the producers allow Simon to bash or congratulate for a longer period of time then normal that will affect the way people vote and the producers are the ones who decide this. By judging some of the responses and the amount of time each judge has spent talking about each David, I would say David Archuleta would have the advantage of the producers wanting him to win.

As always this will come down to the amount of votes each contestant gets. This is a hard year and they both are very close. I think that David Archuleta has a huge fan base under the age of 18 and with the producers help he could win but David Cook also is a fighter and a rocker and the American Idol producers would be stupid to let another rocker go. The winner of American Idol will most likely be David Archuleta. My vote for who should win American Idol is David Cook. I can tell you this, no matter who wins on Wednesday the second place person will do just as well when it comes to selling Cd's.
