On September 16, viewers will tune in for the 59th annual Emmy Awards. Like awards shows or hate them, everyone wants to root for their favorite to win or boo at the people who walk off with the award year after year. However, this year's Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category is not a shopping list of actresses that never changes. In fact, some of the names on the list are so good; it may be a wonder if anyone can choose between them.

Kyra Sedgwick has always been an extremely talented actress, but her nuanced performance as Deputy Chief Brenda Lee Johnson will have fans yelling "Thank yew! Thank yew very much!" if she walks away with the Emmy award and deservedly so. Whether she is fumbling with her interpersonal relations or ripping a confession from one of the perps, there is always something going on in Sedgwick's performance and it's a good thing the Academy noticed.

Mariska Hargitay actually went home last year with this award for her role as Detective Olivia Benson making more than one reviewer very happy. Despite being on one of the "Law and Order" shows, Hargitay manages to convey a wealth of compassion and depth of character with each and every case no matter how procedural.

Sally Field as a television regular is something to behold. She is a dynamite performer who delivers on every line - including the punctuation marks. Brothers & Sisters may have been the sleeper hit that took last season by storm, but Field's presence in this category is far from a surprise.

With those three ladies being the best three pick, there's always Edie Falco as Carmela Soprano who might snatch the award. This is the last year of the Sopranos and while viewers may have been disappointed in the final episode, they weren't disappointed by Falco at all. The final two nominees are hardly unknown, in fact this is a category packed with movie powerhouses including Minnie Driver as Dahlia Malloy on The Riches and Patricia Arquette from Medium.

Truth be told, these ladies are all winners because they are in such great and classy company, but there's no clear cut head of the pack here. So be sure to tune in on September 16th to find out who will win this category and more.
