The contenders for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series are as follows:
Alec Baldwin as Jack Donaghy in "30 Rock"
Rick Gervais as Andy Millman in "Extras"
Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk in "Monk"
Steve Carell as Michael Scott in "The Office"
Charlie Sheen as Charlie Harper in "Two and a Half Men"
Alec Baldwin is best known for his roles in hit films, but he has done a lot of work in television and has been nominated five times for an Emmy award, but has never won. In 1996, he was nominated for his work in "A Streetcar Named Desire" in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Movie or Miniseries. In 2001, Baldwin was nominated for "Nuremburg," as a producer in the category of Outstanding Miniseries. In 2002, Baldwin was nominated for his work in "Path to War," in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Movie or Miniseries. In 2005 and 2006, Baldwin was nominated for his role on "Will and Grace" in the category of Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
Rick Gervais has been nominated for an Emmy three times in the past and twice in 2006. He was nominated in 2005 for "The Office" in the Outstanding Writing in a Movie, Miniseries, and Dramatic Special." In 2006, Gervais was nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Comedy Series for "The Office." He, along with the other producers of "The Office," won the 2006 Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Tony Shalhoub has been nominated for an Emmy four times in the past four years. He was nominated in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 for his role as Adrian on the hugely popular "Monk" in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Shalhoub won the Emmy in 2005 and 2006.
Steve Carell has been nominated for an Emmy once before. He was nominated, but did not win in 2006 for his role on "The Office" in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Charlie Sheen has been nominated for an Emmy once before. Sheen was nominated for his work on the television series "Two and a Half Men" in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, but he did not win.
Of all the male contenders in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, there are conflicting opinions about who should win. However, Steve Carell seems to be the popular frontrunner for his entertaining portrayal of Michael Scott in "The Office."
