The first thing consumers may notice is that the Playstation 3's console upgraded unit costs $600 and the Xbox 360's console upgraded unit costs $400. PS3's upgraded unit has a 60GB memory unit whereas the Xbox 360 has a 20GB memory unit. Both systems have non-upgraded units that run $100 cheaper with little missing. The 360 loses its 20GB memory unit and the PS3 goes to only a 40GB memory unit and some technical loses, nothing major though.
The Playstation 3 is the most costly system on the market right now. One reason the PlayStation 3 runs for a higher price is the new Blue-ray technology that it incorporates. The format of the new Blue-ray technology allows for discs to hold up to five times as much storage capacity of traditional DVDs. This will allow movies to come out with full HD compatiblity. Also, all PS3 games will be released in Blue-ray disc, BD-ROM. The Xbox 360 incorporates the traditional DVD system and all the games are in the normal DVD-ROM.
When comparing certain games of the PS3 and the Xbox 360 it was clear that the 360 had better graphics than the PS3 games. The lighting in the 360 games was clearly better and little details such as leaves on a tree and the asphalt were clearer on the 360 games.
The Xbox 360 had a rocky start with it's graphics and once the game developers became used to the new technology the games took off with some of the best graphics ever seen in video games. Assuming the same is happening with the PS3 the games will gradually get better with graphics and should have better graphics than the Xbox 360.
Both systems have online play, but the Xbox 360's online is much better. Microsoft's Xbox online support was phenomenal. They had built in-house experience, a big user base, facilities, they had a money commitment from the executive level, and it had positive feedback from 100,000s of Xbox Live subscribers.
The Xbox 360 incorporates all the same features as the old system with new technology. The new Xbox Live allows you to download demos of games, buy arcade games in the Arcade Lounge, rent movies, and buy pictures to customize you Xbox 360 background. The Playstation online is starting to pick up and follow Xbox Live, but will have a long way to go to get to the glory of Xbox Live.
The Xbox 360 is a cheaper system with better graphics and a better online play. The Playstation 3 is a more expensive system with Blue-ray technology, which has the possibility of having amazing graphics, and a weak online play. Both systems have positives and negatives. Depending on your taste both systems are a good buy.
