Keeping it Pure and Organic Isn't Easy

Whole Foods Market Organics just issued a recall of Veggie Booty for possible contamination with Salmonella.

Here is a hot tip for all of you that are concerned for your health and LOOKING to eat properly. Be careful what you eat. Even your heath food can be problematic.

Please do not buy Veggie Booty by Robert's American Gourmet Food, Inc and carried and distributed by Whole Foods Market Company. Call Robert's American Gourmet at 1-800-626-7557 for information. This product has been RECALLED nationwide. Veggie Booty poses a possible health risk as it may be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism that can cause very serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

This distributor, Whole Foods Market Organics started with one small store back in 1980 in Austin, Texas. Whole Foods Market now claims the title of "world's leading retailer of natural and organic foods". Their trademarks include Whole Foods Market®, 365 Everyday Value™, 365 Organic Everyday Value™, Whole Kids Organic™ and Allegro Coffee Company® products. They have 196 stores located in the US and the UK. Their web site also offers interactive quality recipes using their featured ingredients.

Whole Foods Market is a good company plagued by recalls. As with any mega distributor of food products; mistakes will be made from time to time. They say their mission is to be selective about the products they handle and sell.

In Boca Raton, Florida I have purchased and made some of their wonderful Allegro Coffee that in my opinion is better than Folgers coffee any day of the week. I have noticed that all the Whole Foods Market Allegro Coffee has regional characteristics and distinct flavors. I have tasted four types and have been pleased with the quality of each. For each one, the aroma when I opened the bag was fruity and full bodied. The velvety taste of each was worth the trip to their store.

Whole Foods Market has had problems before this. In the UK, they had to recall their "Fresh & Wild Organic Everyday Value™ Hummus, Pepperoni and Chilled Pizzas" for temperature control abuse by the manufacturer.

But two types of products recalled out of the huge number of distributed items they carry do not condemn a company. And their philosophy is a good one. They want to bring to the public a variety of products without preservatives and additives. They state on their web site that each vendor must meet certain quality standard requirements set by Whole Foods Market Organics. A difficult mission in these days and times.
