Whole Foods Organic Mozzarella Cheese Review

If there's one thing I like, it's a deal. And when it comes to many of Whole Foods' 365 Everyday Value organic food items, I look for and find deals. Particularly though, have I been finding a deal in Whole Foods Organic Mozzarella Cheese. Compared to the many other brands of organic mozzarella cheeses I've bought, Whole Foods 365 Everyday Value Organic Mozzarella Cheese is much cheaper. But there is one drawback, at least for me.

I Can Live With Low Moisture and Part Skim Organic Mozzarella Cheese

I don't follow the current popular trend, choosing skim or low fat milk instead of whole milk. Truth be told, the difference in fat content between low or skim milk and whole milk is quite insignificant; and I'm of the understanding that the small amount of fat they take out of whole milk to make it skim or low fat milk is actually good and necessary for you. So we use whole milk and, whenever possible, whole milk cheese at our house.

Whole Foods Organic Mozzarella Cheese is low-moisture, part skim milk cheese. I can live with that, specifically because of the comparatively low price of Whole Foods Organic Mozzarella Cheese. The packaging says the cheese has a "smooth, creamy flavor." I wouldn't generously go so far as to describe it that savory , but it certainly is tasty mozzarella cheese.

And It's Shredded Too!

Despite it's not whole milk organic mozzarella cheese, and beyond its comparatively lower price, what makes it doubly more eatable is it's shredded. Not only are other brands of organic mozzarella cheese more expensive, but neither do they shred the cheese. Whole Foods went the extra mile, offering shredded organic mozzarella cheese. Most of us know, sometimes it's better to use shredded cheese in certain food preparations.

Organic Mozzarella Cheese Price Comparison

One other specific brand of organic mozzarella cheese do I buy on a fairly regular basis: Organic Valley. Not only have I never seen Organic Valley shred its mozzarella cheese, but neither have I ever seen it even pre-sliced, now that I think about it. Moreover, a half pound block of Organic Valley Organic Mozzarella Cheese costs $4.99, which equals ten dollars a pound. Whereas Whole Foods Shredded Organic Mozzarella Cheese costs $6.99 a pound.

Not only is that lower than any other organic mozzarella cheese I've seen for sale, but it's lower than a few other mozzarella cheeses I've seen that aren't organic.

Check for the Cheese Before You Breeze...

One thing I've learned to do ( due to quite a few minor frustrations ): Check for the cheese before I breeze to the store. Call Whole Foods and find out if its shredded organic mozzarella cheese is in store. With such a good price, and considering how loved is mozzarella cheese, I'm not the only one milking this Whole Foods 365 Everyday Value food item for all it's worth! Thanks Whole Foods!

Edited to Add: Whole Foods Organic Mozzarella Cheese went up a full dollar overnight. Now a one pound bag of Whole Foods Organic Mozzarella Cheese ( Shredded ) costs $7.99, an overnight gargantuan increase of approximately 15%. I'd venture to say Whole Foods raised the price so that it is closer to other brands, and not because it suddenly costs them more to get it to market.
