Whole Grain Appetizers - Whole Grain Snack Mix
This delicious whole grain snack mix appetizer can be thrown together in just minutes. And the best part is, it's guilt free! You're guests will love this one. It goes fast at all of my dinner parties.
Ingredients:
2 cups Fiber One Original Bran Cereal
2 cups Fiber One Honey Clusters Cereal
2 cups Honey Nut Cheerios Cereal
1 cup raisins
1 cup almonds
1 cup peanuts
1 cup carob chips, optional
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a large container and mix well. Cover and store this whole grain appetizer until ready to serve.
Whole Grain Appetizers - Whole Grain Bagel Chips
These delicious whole grain appetizers are wonderful served with hummus or bean dip. They are completely fat free and filled with fiber. Your guests will thank you as you watch these bagel chips disappear.
Ingredients:
Whole grain bagels
Cooking spray
Directions:
Slice the whole grain bagels diagonally into thin pieces. Spray a cookie sheet with cooking spray and lay out the bagel pieces. Spray a bit more cooking spray on top. Bake at 400 degrees until the chips are brown and crisp, usually about five-ten minutes. Serve these whole grain appetizers with your favorite dip.
Whole Grain Appetizers - Whole Wheat Pastries
These are delicious whole grain appetizers that everyone will love. They are low fat and filled with nutrients. These are always a big hit at parties.
Ingredients:
1 ¼ cups whole wheat pastry flour
1 ¼ cups milk
3 eggs
2 tablespoons butter, melted
¼ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon cold butter, cut into small chunks
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray a muffin pan with cooking spray. In a food processor or blender, mix flour, milk, eggs, melted butter and salt. Blend until smooth.
Meanwhile, preheat muffin pan in the oven for two-three minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and place a small chunk of butter into each muffin cup. Return to oven until butter is melted.
Place batter into each muffin cup until it's filled halfway. Bake for about twenty minutes. Reduce heat in oven to 350 degrees and continue baking for another twenty minutes. Remove from cups and cool slightly on wire racks. Serve these whole grain appetizers with cold butter or jam. For added sweetness, sprinkle with brown or raw sugar.
