Whom Should You Thank on Thanksgiving?

Ava Petersen
Thanksgiving is the day when you should thank anyone who has made an impact in your life. The question is not so much whom should you thank on Thanksgiving Day, but what you should thank them for. Thank God, however you view Him, for giving you life and guiding you to whom you are today. Thank Him for giving you the life you are living, the family and friends that have helped to shape your life to this day, and for the choices that you have made. Thank him for the good food you eat, the roof over your head, the clothes on your back, the car that you drive. Thank God for your job, your income, and your ability to carry on this job. Thank God for everything and anything in your life, because even if it was a friend who gave you that aspect of your life, it was through God's will that it was done.

Of course, without your friends and family then God would have no one to do his good works through. Be sure to thank your parents, friends, family, children and anyone whom you know who has made any kind of an impact on your life. These people listened to God and helped you make decisions, take chances, and encouraged you to do the best that you can, or to see the wrongs that you must right. Thank them for helping, and thank them for listening to God. You are who you are today because of them.

People tend to forget the teachers in their lives. These can be the school teachers and professors who inspired you to continue in your work. Or they can be someone you don't really know, or only know in passing, who taught you something that either gave you an advantage or the fore knowledge you needed at a pivotal time in your life. Thank God for bringing these people into your life when you needed them most, and thank God for helping you to learn the lesson they have to teach.

Finally, you should thank yourself. I know this sounds selfish, but you are who you are because you were willing to take the risks, listen to your teachers, and listen to God. Without your willingness to do what is right and listen to those who came into your life to teach, you would not be the person you are today. And thank yourself for recognizing that you have the ability to change what you do not like, keep the things about yourself that you do like, and having the wisdom to know the difference.
