Why 7Up Should Go Back to Its Original Formula

Oh, boy. This is one of the biggest mistakes ever made when it comes to tried and true formulas. When I was young and my stomach got upset, my mom would tell me have crackers and 7 Up. It worked, too. And I loved it. It was something that I had been accustomed to since I was young. With 7 Up's new formula, if my mom tried to give me that now, I would pass and opt for the Alka-Seltzer.

I know 7 Up had been a dying brand for some time, but they should have revitalized their advertising campaigns, not their formula. They might as well market it as a whole new product. If you haven't tried it yet, you're not missing much but a grimace. The best way I can think of describing the new 7 Up taste is that it tastes like flat Sprite. Doesn't sound very appealing, does it?

When I first heard they were going to start making 7 Up from all-natural flavors, I was excited. I like soda and I know it's not very good for you so I was hoping for a healthier choice. However, they compromised too much when it comes to taste for a supposed healthier soda. It barely even tastes like a carbonated beverage anymore.

Aside from the taste, which is definitely a deal breaker, the claim that it's healthy is also questionable. If you look at the ingredients on a 7 Up bottle this is what you will see: Filtered carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, natural citric acid, natural flavors, natural potassium citrate. I don't know about you, but I want them to define "natural." Why doesn't it simply state, lime and lemon juice? Natural leaves me with a big question mark. Not everything that is "natural" is good for you. Marijuana, for example, is natural. But I wouldn't argue that marijuana is healthier just because it grows out of the ground. Incidentally, marijuana doesn't taste that great either.

7 Up definitely made a bad decision to change their formula because it's completely different from what it used to be. They also aren't staying true to their product. They are a soda and when it comes right down to it, even diet 100% natural soda is not that healthy. When people want healthy, they drink juice. If they're going to drink soda anyway, they might as well drink a soda that tastes good and has a few more artificial ingredients.
