Regardless of whether or not Simon's urging was acceptable or at all fair, my prediction holds true: Adam Lambert will lose American Idol. In order to make that happen, fans once divided must come together in a bold move that will shake the very Idol competition to its core. American Idol will suffer its biggest upset ever and underdog Kris Allen will win, becoming this season's American Idol.
Before all of you Adam fans go completely rabid, hear me out-I'm not just flapping my jaws because my boy Danny is out of the competition.
Even Simon Cowell said that Adam wouldn't win. It's true. In a TV Guide interview a few weeks ago Cowell said that Adam's style of singing, his appearance, and his personality rub most of America the wrong way. He continued to explain saying that while Adam could be a huge star in Europe (as the Brit is haughtily presuming that Europe is more open-minded and fashion-forward), he doubted that Lambert would have that good of a career in the states. In fact, during that interview, Cowell predicted that Danny Gokey would win the Idol crown and have a stronger, longer career in the states.
Why did Cowell say that? Because Danny Gokey was the safer bet. His pop rock sensibility is more in line with America's median consumer's range of acceptability. It's not too far out there yet it's not stale and irrelevant.
Time proved Simon wrong on that one. Danny Gokey is gone from the Idol stage and a new player has stepped in to fill his shoes. Kris Allen's heartfelt pop rock is reminiscent of Snow Patrol, The Fray, and maybe even has a little bit of Cold Play thrown in there for good measure.
While Kris has played second fiddle (or third as the case may be) to the two titans of American Idol Season 8 (Gokey and Lambert) he's no slouch when it comes to the talent and, as Ryan Seacrest stated during the results show on Wednesday May 13th, the difference between the top slot and the runner up was just a hair over 1 million votes. Sounds like a lot but not when you consider that over 88 million votes were cast the night before. That means that, at that point, Adam Lambert only led the Idol pack by just over 1% of the votes. If even half of Danny Gokey's fans swap allegiance to Kris (as my entire household has) it makes sense to say that Kris Allen stands possibly the best chance of becoming the next American Idol.
It's not too much of a stretch to imagine half of Danny's fans flip-flopping either. Indeed, the general consensus among Gokey fans on Twitter is that they won't vote for Adam. Some don't even really care who wins now that Danny is gone. One fan (who shall remain nameless) even said shortly after Danny got the boot that "Idol for [her] is over now."
So will Kris Allen pull it off and topple Adam Lambert? Will America fly in the faces of the American Idol Judges and crown their own king? There's a good chance of it. Keep in mind that last season all of the judges had picked David Archuletta to walk away with the title when a young fellow by the name of David Cook proved them wrong.
Either way, this season of Idol will be a fight to the finish.

Post a CommentI really with that Adam HAD lost American Idol. *sigh*
I watched American Idol when it first debuted in 2002. Adam Lambert is one if not the best singer that I have seen grace the stage of American Idol.
I watched the show every week just to hear him sing. His originality and voice is unbelievable.
Week after week unbelievable.
Shocked that he lost!!!!!!!!!
I think Adam Labert was robbed because of his looks (and maybe lifestyle). He was the BEST singer ever, but Kris is a "ggod Christian boy" with a church voice. I would NEVER buy music from Kris. He has no voice. I hope he realizes he doesn't deserve to win.
This article suggests that everyone has already made up their mind how they will vote tomorrow. There are a lot of Danny fans I think are ope to either Kris or Adam. This will all come down to, as it turns out, the actual performances. If Adam has a "Lambert" night like he did with "Mad World" "Black or White" Tracks of My Tears" or "Whole Lotta Love" Kris will not have a chance. And I like Kris a lot. Adam just is a far superior singer and performer. Adam for the win!
Robert, I'm not saying you are a bigot. One of the reasons why I was satisfied when Danny went home was that this proved that Lambert - supposedly the guy whose "appearance and personality rubs MOST Americans the wrong way" - got more AMERICAN votes than Mr. Gokey. Clearly, Simon OVERestimated Gokey's appeal in the USA. The USA is a diverse place. Adam, the one that is supposedly more popular in Europe than in America, defeated Gokey for the top 2. Gokey, supposedly the representative of the "ALL AMERICAN" male, went home. I think it's time we take a close look at what and who we consider to be ALL-AMERICAN. If Adam loses because of angry Danny Gokey fans, that says more about them than about Adam. And how UN-AMERICAN it is to vote against someone out of anger, which, based on my facebook conversations with Danny's fans, appears to be what a lot of them are going to be doing on Tuesday - voting AGAINST Adam rather than FOR Kris.
Robert Palmer, don't worry, it is Adam who is the underdog and fighting the uphill battle at this point. Kris might just win easily because he is more contemporary. But I also believe that there is a market for someone like Adam. I guess after the show, you can choose not to listen to Adam's high and "screechy" voice again. But for me and many others, we can't wait for more Adam Lambert.
Did I say anything about him being gay? As far as I know, that's just a rumor. I've not seen anything saying for sure either way and it doesn't really matter. Don't lump me in with the bigotted crowd. Freddie Mercury is one of my all time favorite singers.
Do I like Adam's singing? No. I think his voice is high and screechy (however I have to say his performance of Mad World was one of the best I have ever seen on the Idol stage.) I wrote this article because everything I've seen in the media is already proclaiming Adam to be then next Idol (including statements from all three judges --oops I mean four.) I just want to let people know that when America votes, you cani never be sure of the outcome.
Great. In other words, middle America (Gokey/Allen fans) let's all pile on the gay guy from Hollywood. Terrific. What progress we are making! Never mind that he is super-talented, we can take him down. WOW.
Kris is going to win easily everyone knows that. all the gokey fans will vote for him.
Adam is obviously the underdog - how can he possibly win when there is so much hatred against him in this country. The little boy from Arkansas is clearly the winner. The "huge upset" you refer to would be if the insanely talented and openly gay Adam were to win. sadly it wont happen. America will get its Arkansas Idol!
