Why I am Grateful for my High School Coach

It's Thanksgiving, right. You're supposed to be thankful not just for material things but for what we as a people are capable of doing for one another.

It's nice to know that if you get into trouble you are not always alone. I don't know anyone that hasn't needed a helping hand at one time or another, and I am no exception.

I will never forget the ninth grade, we moved to a new town and I didn't know anyone there. I really didn't feel like I fit in with the rest of the kids, they would treat me horribly, to the point I would go home crying.

I remember it was on Tuesday afternoon Coach Carter asked me what my favorite sport was and I remember telling her I didn't have a favorite sport, but she thought I would be good in volleyball. So I decided to give it a shot!

After a few practices Coach said I was a natural and she added me to the team as well as being my mentor which is what I'm really thankful for. She really proved how much she cared and was always there when I needed her. She was like an Aunt.

Even though I quit volleyball after the ninth grade she still mentored me through high school and anytime I needed any assistance. I never felt out of place again, I guess because I knew I always had some where to go if I needed to. For all of these things she offered me I am very grateful, blessed, and thankful.

Over the years we lost touch, but if there was anything I could Coach Carter I would tell her Happy Thanksgiving and I never forgot about her!
