Why I Am Not a Christian....Sorry Bertrand

Stephanie Alford
I am probably going to lose a lot of friends over this, but I'm not going to pretend to be something that I'm not. Hopefully, most of my friends will read this and agree to disagree. Either way, it's got to be said. First of all, I know this is going to sound highly critical, but it's not meant to be such...just a means to explain my frustration. The reasons that I feel as I do are simple; it's my opinion. Everyone has different beliefs and whatnot, that's what it means to be an individual. However, a lot of religous people (namely Christians that I know....not all of them, of course, but quite a few) seem to think that they are so righteous that they can do no wrong. So now I believe that they feel as if they are omniscient....wouldn't that type of power pertain only to the god that they so adamantly hold up the highest reverence to? If the god that they believe in is real, then I'm sure that he would be rather upset. That's just my opinion, not a concrete fact. I was having a discussion today about gays being allowed in a church, and was told that while they are allowed to visit, they cannot join. So basically, these people have to endure being around a bunch of people that scorn them, and still aren't granted membership. I have to ask myself, why would they even want to be involved with people like that anyway? They say that being gay is a sin, and they don't want them in the church. Okay, well isn't lying a sin....no one in church can honestly tell me that they don't ever tell a lie. So with their theory that homosexuality is a sin, shouldn't all the liars be expelled as well? Anyway, I don't wish to ramble on this subject, I'm sure that I'm already going to be cast aside. As I stated earlier, you have to look at things from all angles and not just say "oh, this is wrong, we should banish this person"; I mean, really, how righteous is that?

As a Christian I don't take offense at this at all. I would take offense at a Christian behaving as such. SHeryl Young hit it on the head. Keep up the good work Steph. -Bob

Yes, you have to look at everything from all angles and it is wise to state an opinion to star a dialog. People may or may not agree with you..........that is another thing, though.

Hey sweetie, I consider myself a Christian with strong Hindu influences (yoga and the sun salutations etc.) I just wanted to let you know that you won't lose me as a friend, because of anything. I appreciate you honesty and will be there if you need me. Plus I've got PILES of e-mails to answer. If you ever need to talk, I'm here! Keep up the good writing!!!!

Hi Stephanie, I am appalled at the answers you seem to be getting from "Christians". I've been in 3 churches over 20 years, and NONE of them has refused gay people...it is only through Christians sharing the love of Jesus and drawing people into their fellowship that all types of people MAY (not always will) desire to see if God had something else in mind for them (and He does, as He does for us ALL). I have a friend who tells of just this happening with 2 gay people at her church. "Christians" who think homosexuality's the worst sin need to look inside or read their Bible better. Romans 1:24-32 does concentrate on it, but 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 comes down on many of us. I'm a Christian but I have many faults and don't consider myself omniscient like God. I also don't know any other Christians who think they're perfect. In fact, the majority of us cry out daily with guilt over things we've done. Please keep seeking a more loving church.

Stephanie, none of us are angels. We sin in the eyes of God one way or another. You have every right to believe in what you want to, but understand that those of us Christians who really care are only concerned about you going to heaven.

Homosexuals are living in sin, just as the rest of us. The difference between a homosexual and a Christian who isn't is that the Christian is doing the best they can not to sin. Homosexuals want others to know their sexual preference, and therefore blatently continue to sin even though they don't see it that way. They look at it as a way of life, which according to the Bible is not the way God wants us to live.

I am not in any way saying that I am better than you or that I am close to being God like. Boy, am I not! Christianity is also a lifestyle, and one that includes God in it. This means that I, like others, pray, read the Bible, meditate, and go to church. I also have fellowship with other Christians. This helps us to better un
