Why Android Wins My Vote

Kaitlin Todd

From personal experience, the Android phone has allowed me to keep up with the latest information from almost anywhere. The available applications make work and home life easier and more efficient. Though, being as frugal as I am, I only download the free apps. Surprisingly, the free apps offer just as must efficiency and only a few are "trials" for the full version. I am able to check e-mail accounts, social networking sites, play games, view bank accounts, upload photos, and entertain my children when at an appointment.

One of my favorite applications is actually for my kids. I have two children and each one is able to open their own file within the app by clicking on the button with their picture. Inside that file is recommended age-specific games, short shows, puzzles, and more. In addition to the fun things they can do, it is also a child lock so they cannot access anything else on the phone.

While my laptop has wi-fi, I can only connect when there is an available and unencrypted signal. I can use the Droid as a router by connecting it to my laptop almost anywhere! I once had to finish a 40-page essay within two hours when my home internet went down. Thankfully, my phone saved the day! I no longer carry pages of a grocery list to the store, my phone has it all written down and I simply tap the item when I put it in my cart. No longer do I have to fumble around with half-ripped papers covered in juice and whatever my preschooler decided to color with.

Another great organizing benefit to the Droid is that it offer seven home screens instead of just one that the iphone offers. Personally, I have one home screen for each kid, one for games and social networking, one for work-related apps, one for basics such as e-mail, texting, and actual phone function, and the other two are undecided. This phone also has a physical slide-out qwerty keyboard to make texting and typing easier. There is also the option to type on the touch-screen.

I had no idea how much easier an Android phone could actually make my life. Running my own business, attending school, and being a busy mother can actually be less complicated when everything you need is literally in the palm of your hand.
