It was worth every penny. We bought the extended 3 year warranty and haven't had to use it once. The computer works as well as it did the first day we got it and its design is very economical on space and easy on the eyes. As for all those seasoned Microsoft software users, no fear required, Microsoft also has Microsoft Office for MAC. Also, with its core 2 duo micro chip, Microsoft Windows can be used on a MAC using a software called parallels. For those who need a lot of tech support, chances are you will need less of it because MAC's come ready to use right out of the box. It really makes me feel unchallenged using a MAC because it is so easy. Now I feel as though I take the IMAC for granted! However, if you find yourself needing tech support, it is great and comes free for the first 90 days after which and extended warranty will cover a lot of things including tech support.
IMAC's recent operating systems include OSX Tiger and OSX Leopard. Its features include a very hand magnifying glass in the top right hand corner of the screen that helps you find anything, I mean anything on your computer. It is essentially a key word search of every readable file on your computer. So instead of going into the file folder in Windows and searching folder by folder, one just types a word and it reveals a list of all things with that name or similar in order of closeness of match. For example, if I have a filed my taxes online and want to retrieve an encrypted file of the data I can just type in the name of the folder, or what I think the folder was called and the search option will show me everything saved with similar names. It's a great feature for finding lost files. Also, the operating system allows you to encrypt sensitive information using a simple password to protect your files.
Speaking of protection, Apple's are very safe computers to use online. In one of the MAC intro's I found on the apple website it said the MAC operating system is designed with security from the bottom up meaning it has a lot of integrity and code loopholes are harder for hackers to find and exploit. So far our IMAC has been issue free and has served all our computing needs very well.
IMAC's do cost more than PC's and not all the software available for PC's is also written for MAC's but Apple does have a decent line of software and the operating system will easily accomodate multiple appications being used at the same time. That is unless they're absolutely huge and disproportionate to the size of the hard drive. The hard drive for my MAC has a 2 GB capacity, only a fraction of which is used and the hardrive is built into the monitor along with the CD drive and ports. It about the same size as a 15-17" Flat screen TV and pretty much all you have to do is plug it in!! I would recommend this computer to anyone who is looking for a relable, well designed, efficient premium computer that runs online applications effectively. Apple has outlets in many cities with friendly and helpful associates to help you with your decision and their online site htp://www.apple.com is helpful in learning more about the computers.
