Why Apple Will Give Less Importance to the IPod

IPod's Future on the Rocks?

Apple's number one product for many years was its iPods; it has become a house hold name. Everyone knows someone with an iPod or has an iPod themselves. But it won't last forever! IPods are losing importance fast!

The single thing that put Apple to the top of its game was the iPod. Things are changing. The major reason for this is that Apple itself has caused this change with the introduction of the iphone. Apple's new direction will be on the iphone.

Why, because the iphone is more practical and consequently the iPod may soon be obsolete. With most of the new cell phones offering mp3 capabilities and more importantly media capabilities, why would you want an iPod when you could have it included with your cell phone?

To further push this Google has stepped up the competition by introducing its Android operating system. They have already lined up several cell phone companies to produce phones using the system. Microsoft is improving its systems for cell phones.

The truth is cell phones are quickly becoming practical media devices. They are very capable of keeping up with the iPod and surpassing it with internet capabilities. These products are also becoming more affordable simply because there is more competition and as a result more options.

While right now you may not want to spend money on these smart phones, in the future it may be the only option when buying a cell phone. When we reach that level iPods will be practically useless, besides the few minor benefits such as price, size and ease of use.

I'm not by any means saying I dislike portable media players, but I am saying it's more practical from a business standpoint to back a phone that has media capabilities, than another portable media product. Think of it this way, consider the fact that the number of application downloads from Apples application store reached 60 million in its first month, that's an average of about $1 million in revenue per day.

As you can imagine and may have heard it just grew from there. People want more than just music online and many of them are willing to get music for free. Applications on the other hand (most of them) people can't get for free, this means millions of dollars for Apple and other popular application developers.

It's only logical the Apple puts more effort into its phones, rather than its iPods. I love portable media devices, but having one with phone and internet capabilities just makes more sense, there are countless things you can do with the exciting applications that are being produced every day.

The best part is you take your phone almost everywhere you go, so you will always have media and more importantly entertainment for those boring parts during our day. It's just another reason why these incredible all in one devices will win out in the long run.
