Why Are Atheists so Hateful These Days?

My Thoughts About Atheists and Christians

Randy Inman

Why are atheists so damn nasty these days? Let me make this clear I consider myself agnostic and not a Christian. I dearly wish I had the faith that my Christian friends do, but I do not. I simply can't get past the science of it all to find God. Perhaps that will change and in a way I hope it does.

Even when I considered myself a full fledged atheist I shied away from confronting Christians about their faith. Yes on a very few occasions I was put off by a pushy holier than thou Christian. Face it the draw for many to religion is the self righteous glee they get in telling people how to live or they will burn in Hell. Well that type of false Christian can line up with pushy atheists and kiss my agnostic butt!

I never felt the need to try to convince religious people that they were wrong. What good does it do to make people feel bad about what they believe in? Recently I felt attacked and very angry when an online friend took offense to a Christian post I made on Facebook and attacked it with an editorial on this site.

I had copied a post made by a cousin of mine who had just lost her father who happened to be my favorite uncle. To me it did no harm to lend a little support to somebody who felt better by thinking she would see her father again, after he died in her arms. Who knows maybe she will.

Many times I see atheist or other left wing stuff on Facebook that offends me but I don't go on the attack. I simply ignore it or unfriend the person if it gets to where I can't stand it.

So many atheists these days feel the need to attack anything that represents God or religion. I never understood that at all and I welcome any comments that can explain this reasoning.

Of course religion has to be tossed in with politics. The far right wingerswanted people to think President Obama was a Muslim so people wouldn't vote for him. I voted against him for his socialist views not his religious ones. I think he is probably an atheist but I can't look into a man's heart and know what he feels.

I just don't get why some atheists feel the need to attack all things that represent God. In truth it makes me wonder if there IS a God and that these hard core haters are really driven by Satan.

Look at it this way if there is no God then we won't know about it. We will die and be gone and that is it. If there IS God then atheists and their children they teach to hate God will burn in Hell.

If a person feels comfort from their faith then why should atheists attack that? What is wrong with somebody feeling better about something? Face it life is pretty crappy for many of us. If God can help them through tough times then does it really matter if he exists?

It all boils down to abortion. Atheists don't think abortion is murder. Christians believe abortion is murder. Never the twain shall meet.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of hate in this world. I think most mature adults are able to respect other's opinions and faith.

Your experience speaks to a bigger issue that people are increasingly intolerant of differing views. Sorry to hear about your uncle. I hope your family finds peace.

Randy, atheists who say they hate God are not true atheists. Atheists don't hate God, because they don't believe he exists. I think what they hate is that they are so often confronted with proseletyzers and those who say they are going straight to hell. They don't believe in hell, and really, they should laugh it off, but it gets hard after awhile. Before I found Pantheism, I was a green witch. (some will say I still am. ;)) I was constantly called a satanist and a heathen and told I was going to hell and on and on. Once I adopted Pantheism, which is based in nature, I was suddenly o.k. to the Christians. Well, not the extreme right wing, but most of them. People fear what they do not understand so they attack it. Me, I was raised a Christian, so I understand it, and I am not afraid of it. Those who have never been Christians would be afraid, because it is something alien to them. It's not really hatred, I don't think, it's fear. Just like racism. They are just afraid..what of, who knows, but they are.

I really like this article. I am actually a Christian, but I also don't try to "force" my beliefs on others. When I minister to other people, it's not about me being right and them wrong, I just want them to find hope in what I have. If they reject it, then that's their choice. I know there are plenty of hateful, bigoted Christians out there, but not all of us are like that. I have found reason to believe what I do, rather than going on it blindly. I too questioned if what I believed was right. For me it's about finding hope and purpose beyond here and now.

They censored the "d" word? Really?

Like you, I'm also non-religous, but I'm no atheist. I can't call myself a true agnostic either, since I don't concern myself with wondering if God really exists or not. I don't know what category I'd be called for one who just really doesn't give a #$%$ whether he exists or not... but that would be me. I'll live my life the way I choose to live it, thank you very much. However, in my experience I find that atheists tend to be a bitter, angry bunch who live their lives with a chip on the shoulder. It's almost as if they went through a terrible ordeal in their lives, and that they're so angry at God, that they reject His existence, rather than admit that their lives could be so bad if such a "good, loving God" existed. At least, that's my take on it. They're not ALL like that, to be sure, but in general.

There are a lot of atheist articles that are sprouting up that sound quite hateful.
