Why the AT&T and Verizon iPad 2 3G Prices Are Way Too Overpriced
Why You Paid Entirely Too Much for the iPad 2 3G
It's a Fee On Top of a Fee
The 3G versions of the iPad 2 cost an additional $129 - which is a lot - but if you are able to take that extra fee on the chin, the extra $129 entry fee will only be the start of your being overcharged to have internet on your iPad 2. In addition to the $129 upfront fee to get a 3G compatible iPad 2, you'll also be forced to pay between $15-$80 a month [$180-$960 a year] to have 3G service exclusive to your tablet - that can't be used or tethered with any other device.
The Service Could Be Better
For $180-$960 a year to have AT&T or Verizon's 3G internet service on your iPad 2, you'd expect the best service possible, but both AT&T and Verizon 3G service customers can attest that both providers definitely have their downsides. AT&T maxes out at a 2GB monthly data plan and charges an additional $10 per extra GB, while Verizon has slower data speeds and basically only works within the United States. It would be better if both AT&T and Verizon offered unlimited plans [like the one AT&T started off with], bandwidth free weekends, or non-penalty areas, but the days of unlimited 3G are over and iPad 2 owners are stuck with the crappy AT&T and Verizon 3G plans.
There Are Way Too Many Better Alternatives
One of the main reasons why the 3G services from Verizon and AT&T for the iPad 2 are completely overpriced is because there are just too many other better alternatives to exclusive 3G in the marketplace. iPad 2 owners could very easily tether their smartphones internet to their iPad, buy an affordable mobile WiFi hotspot device [that can connect with multiple devices] or leach WiFi from free WiFi spots like public libraries, internet cafes, and coffee shops - anything but get screwed by AT&T and Verizon's iPad 2 3G services.
