Post a CommentEnjoyed this article! I played softball on a champion local team when in middle school and my dad was a semi-pro baseball pitcher when he was young!
Love it!
Weightlifting is #5 (farther). Those other things are not sports, even though they are by far the most interesting stuff at the Olympics :)
Rhythmic, that is.
Gymnastics? Rythmic gymnastics (do they even have that anymore)? Diving? Figure skating? Weightlifting? Synchronized swimming?
You missed out cricket - baseball is its progeny!
Wow - this is really true. Baseball is more like chess, in that it is full of numerous set-piece situations, each of which requires it's own calculated response. Like runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs - walk the batter to increase the chance of a force out. But take the score into account, and what inning it is, and who's the home team, etc. A friend of mine noted that experienced players out in the field, even amateurs, start moving as soon as the ball is pitched, not waiting to see what the batter does. They can tell from the kind of pitch what's likely to happen.
I can't stand to watch ladies play softball, that wind up they do gives me a headache!
Okay, I will accept your challenge. Climbing a mountain is "going farther" (see #5), spelling bees are "back and forth until somebody misses" (#2), and on the off chance that "hottie wrangling" is a sport, see #4.
How about where you simply get somewhere that is hard to get to (i.e. climb a mountain, land a date with that hottie at the coffee shop, etc?) ain't that a sport, too? How about spelling bees? I challenge the assertion that these are not sports. CHALLAAAAANGE!
