Ramona The Great
If you are a lover of the arts and are fond of culture and history, perhaps a career as an Arts Curator may be the one for you. The curator is an overseer so to speak. According to the 2010 occupational handbook, "These workers preserve important objects and documents, including works of art, transcripts of meetings, photographs, coins and stamps, and historic objects". Preserving history and researching are two components that are in line with this career choice.

What are the Education Requirements?

Curators usually obtain a bachelor's degree in Art history. You may want to look into programs at a four-year accredited university. In addition, plan on attending graduate school. Most online job postings require curators maintain a master's degree or higher.

Where Are the Curator Jobs?

Curators are employed by Museums, Zoos, Casinos, Art Galleries, and Universities. Landing a curator job with the Federal government may be the wise choice following graduation. The Smithsonian Institution provided a job posting for an Associate Curator and did prefer the potential candidate to have obtained a Ph.D.

What's Exciting about being a Curator?

Curators prepare for exhibitions and most times have the ability to travel throughout the United States. The employment market may be a little slim, but for the most part curators are similar to librarians. Librarians start and finish a career in library. For the most so do curators. You often find that a curator has been employed for years in his or her field. In addition, a new emerging role may be expanding for curators.

What is a Digital Curator?

With the overwhelming amount of information on the internet, digital curators are on the rise. The World Wide Web offers an endless amount content, but have you ever wondered how will it can it be stored and catalogued? A digital curator would help to preserve and catalogue content. Veteran marketer, Steve Rubel states this about digital curator, "Digital Curators are the future of online content. Brands, media companies and dedicated individuals can all become curators". Fortune 500 companies could take advantage of hiring a digital curator as well as small organization, both with the intent of preserving and organizing data relevant to the company's success; history and future."

The salary benefits of an arts curator can vary. However, the prestigious position and duties may take precedence over salary.
