Why Being a Saver Takes Willpower

Todd Hicks

Although being a saver is beneficial and necessary, it is something a lot of people have not fully embraced. For one thing, it requires a lot of fortitude, savvy and willpower. You will learn why saving money takes willpower.

There is paperwork involved sometimes. You are likely to have to fill out a deposit slip if you want to put a portion of the money you get through your paycheck into the bank. On the other hand, if you decide to merely cash your check with no transaction being made, you will not have to fill out a slip and then record your transaction in a savings account passbook; therefore, you will save a lot of time.

A stigma can be attached to it. If you put some of your money away and take measures to reduce the amount you spend at the store, others might think you are crazy and call you stingy. It is up to you to not worry about this and let it stop you from doing what is good for you.

Society tends to believe in instant gratification. It is human nature to have a sense of entitlement and buy whatever you want with the money you have worked hard for. Unless you are disciplined, you will have a hard time resisting the urge to spend all of your money once you are paid.

You might not see a need to do it. This is especially likely to happen if you are living well and think you are safe from losing your job. You will do yourself a favor by preparing for financial emergencies.

It requires sacrifice. Putting money away keeps you from spending all of what you have to get whatever you want on a moment's notice.

You might not like to get bank statements in the mail and spend time opening them up and then shredding them. You can get around this by opting to get each statement online after opening an online account with your bank.
