Why My Best Fashion Accessory is a Helen Kaminski Hat

Anne Wright
The best fashion accessory has to be something casual dressy I can use year round. Most Helen Kaminski hats fit that bill, and my black canvas Kaminski hat is the best of all.

First, a little about Helen Kaminski hats. They retail for about $70 to $300, and they're a great value for the quality. You can see the styles at the Kaminski website but they don't sell online. You can use their online store finder and they're available at many shops including Neiman Marcus. Most styles are casual dressy so they go with almost everything. Unlike many more expensive hats, these fashion accessories look good on the average woman instead of being so big they should have a warning label if you're not a 6 foot tall runway model.

I love all my Kaminski hats, but my black canvas headpiece gets the most use. It's my best fashion accessory because it looks stylish, goes with just about everything, works year round, and just may outlive me. Mine is several years old but there are similar versions online at Kaminski. The fine canvas hats are advertised as spring and summer fashions, but I live in Washington DC and my black hat works about 10 months a year. I wear it regularly except for the coldest days of winter or the hottest days of summer.

I got mine for about half price at Neiman Marcus, and it looks like the prices have stayed about the same even when the cost of everything else seems to be going up. A similar style called the Bellini Kaminski hat has a retail price of $75 and is on sale for $33.

Durability is another factor that makes this Kaminski hat my best fashion accessory. The quality construction will keep it looking good for many more years. Its casual dressy style also enables it to keep looking good even as it gets a bit broken in rather than having to discard it at the first sign of wear if it was a more formal headpiece.

I actually have a similar and very well loved Sonia Rykiel hat that has gotten so faded I now only wear it for casual occasions. I've come to love them both so much, I look forward to keeping them around as we all share our golden years together. I'm going to treasure my best fashion accessory for as long as possible.
