Why Blog? Blogging for Personal, Business, and Income Generating Sites

Mary Lake
Blogging is one of the fastest growing hobbies/pastimes with the ever increasing expansion of the internet. Today, it seems almost everyone has at least one blog - either personal, business, income generating, or maybe one of each. But why blog? And which type of blog is right for you?

First take a look at why you want to start a blog. Do you want to express your thoughts or feelings, relay information about work/business, or do you want to start a blog that generates residual income? Make your choice, choose a blog host and you are well on your way to your own blog.

Blogs can be 100% free for you - the only money you may want to spend in on the domain name and hosting. But that is completely your decision. Business and money generating blogs do not require their own hosting and domain, but it is recommended. This is because your site name will be easier for others to remember and search engines will be able to find your site easier, and will generally index it higher in search engine rankings.

Personal Blogs

Are a great way to express yourself. You can share anything - information, ideas, feelings, basically anything you want to write. Personal blogs can be about anything/everything or can be specific to one topic/niche in particular. Keep in mind that others will be able to read what you write, so use caution when you post. Personal, highly charged posts should be kept personal, so take advantage of the private posting setting.

Also you may want to use a blogging host that supplies a free domain name since you are doing this mainly for yourself, and for friends to see. Many personal blogs will never become popular on the internet - they are primarily used for expression and to meet new people. If you want to have a personal domain and host, that is your decision. Remember though, if you want a personal blog you don't have to spend a dime.

Business Blogs

Can promote and sell your business and/or products to people all over the world instead of one designated area. This provides a huge opportunity to increase sales and income for your preexisting or new business. You do not have to go to a professional to design your site either. Many blog host sites have a number of pre-made templates that can be plugged in with a click or your mouse button. Any difficulties can be easily overcome with easy to follow tutorials. Owning your own site does not have to be complicated anymore! The best thing to do is start with a simple blog host that offers WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) features. Host sites like Wordpress or Blogger can offer the perfect solution because they are geared for the beginner. You may want to get your own domain name and host to make your site memorable and personalized, but that is your decision.

Income Generating Blogs

Are becoming increasingly popular - but choose wisely before you begin. Very rarely will a blog be a solid and consistent income generator. And income will not be generated overnight. It may be as short as a month or as long as a year before you see results. Blog posts must be updated consistently, and content new to keep current readers and generate new ones. It is a lot of hard work for very little money, but if you love the idea or even just want to try it - give it a shot! Keep in mind that this type of blog will also require a lot of research in order to become successful even on a smaller scale. You will have to become an affiliate site, promote items and products, and post advertisements. Also, review blogging host policies some blog hosts do not allow income generating sites. Make sure to read the TOS (terms of service) before you sign up.

Blogs can be started by anyone and can create a number of personal, professional, and income generating opportunities. Remember, no matter what your blog is yours! Be proud of it - you can get professional results even if you are brand new to blogging. Take your time, find and follow the tutorials and you are well on your way to letting the world know a bit about you!
