Marketing
Having your book reviewed by others is an excellent marketing technique. If you write a great book and receive a great review from an original source, you have just given yourself a marketing boost. Those who read a book that they enjoy share that book with others. They encourage others to read the book because they enjoyed it so much. Plus, if others who have read your book stubble upon the review it is likely a discussion will begin relating to your book. This then increases the online presence of your book, which of course promotes your book sales.
Sales
By having your book reviewed you increases your sales. Due to the marketing benefits described above, your online presence increases. With the title of your book listed on numerous sites, your book title will be more readily available and will appear more often on a search engine's results page. The more your book appears online, the greater your sales will become. Even if you offer your book to review for free, the overall long term profit will triumph the profit loss from handing out a few books for free.
Publicity
When you have your book reviewed you are increasing your publicity. It can be difficult to maintain the publicity of the book but by having others review your book, they are helping you out with publicity. When people review books, the often post the reviews on blogs or websites. The owner of the blog or website then publicizes their post, which as a result is publicizing your book. It is a win/win situation for both.
While you can't ensure you will receive a good review about your book when offering it to others, it is still an essential marketing tool for self published authors. Let's face it, some people will like your book and some will not. You can't let the fear of a bad review hold you back from seeking reviewers for your book. If you have written a great book and are confident in your final product, don't hesitate to seek out people to review your book.

Post a CommentSolid advice. How do we find the best reviewers though, and how might we offer our own blogs to self-publishing writers? What's the best way to find the network/common ground for book reivews? An article on how to find book reviewers would make me happy. :)
