Girls are much more expensive to raise. Although there is a growing trend of marketing things for boys, everywhere you go this is true of girls. From the Barbie line, to Hannah Montana clothing, ect., girls are known for having tons of clothes in every style, color, and kind imaginable. This isn't to mention when they are old enough to want the most expensive makeup, stylish jewelry, and all the essentials to go with it. Parenting a little girl can be quite costly.
Once again, parenting also comes down to nurture vs nature. Girls are meaner in nature. Not necessarily physically, but girls are more verbally abusive towards their peers typically. Don't get me wrong, boys fight and are known to bully but the girls may take it to an extreme. Spreading rumors, gossip, and other nasty things have become way too common. Parenting is hard enough without the sass.
As bad as it may sound, parenting a boy is also much easier during puberty. Although boys go through changes, they are typically not as rough as the changes that your daughter will go through. Mood swings are only the beginning of parenting woes during this time.
The drama involved in raising girls can be downright ridiculous. This is especially true if you have little tolerance for it. Girls are known for their drama and can send almost any rational parent over the edge. The thing is, parenting a girl doesn't get any easier as they get older because the drama just gets worse.
What I also consider to be difficult when it comes to parenting a girl is the social and cultural forces at work. Issues with self esteem, eating disorders, and various other problems are more likely to come up with girls. I am not insinuating that these aren't issues with boys, but are more prevalent in females. Society and/or the media sends these little girls the message that they are not good enough on a daily basis. This only contributes to making parenting an even more difficult task.
While I firmly believe that girls are harder to raise than boys, all children are different. How we raise them and what they are exposed to depends on several environmental factors. However, we don't get to choose if we have a boy or a girl and our children are precious gifts, no matter their sex but I can honestly say that raising my boys has been a breeze compared to the experiences that I have had with little girls.
