What is a Healthy Breakfast? ........

A healthy breakfast is one that includes a variety of foods, such as, whole grains, fruit and low-fat protein or dairy products. WebMD states that a healthy breakfast should contain al least 5 grams of fiber, one serving of calcium (one cup of milk or yogurt), and some protein and fat. Limit sugars to about 6 grams (one teaspoon of sugar is 4 grams)

If you have time for a sit down breakfast, some good choices are........

A veggie omelet and a piece of whole-wheat toast and a glass of orange juice

Two whole-wheat pancakes top with blueberries and a glass of low-fat milk

A bowl of oatmeal with cinnamon, raisins and nuts and a glass of 100% juice

A cup of low-fat yogurt, with a handful of whole-grain cereal thrown in, and an apple or banana

Fruit salad- your favorite fruits cut up mixed with some low-fat yogurt and nuts

A bowl of whole-grain cereal, topped with a banana or berries and low-fat milk

www.elook.org/nutrition/cereals/ ... is a wonderful site for nutritional information on breakfast cereals, and not just a few, it has 8 pages of cereal listings.

Remember even if you don't have time to sit down in the morning for breakfast, a breakfast on the go is better than no breakfast at all! Something's you can do on Sunday for the week ahead, such as put a cup of cereal in baggies, make whole-wheat muffins and freeze boil some eggs, cut up some low-fat cheese slices or make a trail mix of raisins, dried cranberries and nuts.
