Why You Should Buy the New Playstation 3 Slim Model

Otter
After numerous rumors, Sony finally announced the slim version of the Playstation 3. The new model will be released on the first week of September and will replace all the current ones on the marketplace. So is the new Playstation 3 model who buying for prospective buyers? Here are a few reasons why the new slim Playstation 3 is worth the money.

Same Compatibility

Although the slim Playstation 3 may be the biggest redesign yet for Sony' high-definition system, it is still the same exact system as the current 80 GB systems on the market. The only feature removed is compatibility with installing other operating systems like Linux to the system. To compensate, the new slim model does come with a 120 GB removable hard drive. While many consumers may be disappointed with the lack of Playstation 2 backwards compatibility, that feature may return in the future via a software firmware update.

Smaller and Lighter

The new slim Playstation 3 model is all about size. It is about a third lighter and smaller than the older models. The original Playstation 3 model is one of the biggest and heaviest video game systems of all-time. This can be a determent to consumers who value space in their entertainment room. Not to mention that the lighter weight makes the new slim Playstation 3 model easier to carry around.

More Energy Efficient

Going green is all the rages these days. Older Playstation 3 models use plenty of energy to operate and can do a number on your electric bill if you constantly turn it on. The new slim Playstation 3 model managed to cut power consumption by a third thanks to the shrinkage of chipsets. Sony was able to shrink the size of the Playstation 3 from 90 nm to 65 nm to now 45nm for the slim Playstation 3 model. With smaller chipsets, the new models consume lesser electricity.

Lower Price Tag

It is no secret that the Playstation 3 is struggling to sell on the market. The main reason for this has to do with the high price tag. For quite awhile, the Playstation 3 was by far the most expensive video game system on the market. At the premium launch price of $599.99, not many consumers were willing to bite especially with much cheaper alternatives. Fortunately, Sony was able to close the gap quickly, going from $599.99 to $499.99, from $499.99 to $399.99 and now from $399.99 to $299.99.

In addition to playing video games, the Playstation 3 is also a multimedia device that can play Blu-Ray movies along with other mediums. The new slim Playstation 3 model is a good reason for consumer to buy the great system.

if your thinking of getting rid of your 60GB ps3, sell it on ebay i did and got 900 bucks for it.
than bought a slim and extended warranty for 500.
brand new ps3 + 2 years extended warranty + 400 bucks profit sounds good to me.
and the slim runs so much quieter and cooler its amazing.
i can actually sit in my room now without drenching the room in sweat.

What is the cost benefit analysis of getting rid of the launch PS3? The amount of electricity I would have to use in order for it to make sense from that viewpoint is quit a lot. Sell the old PS3 then buy the new slim. You're talking about hundreds of dollars

I'm going to stick with my launch PS3 as long as it still works. I have all the original intended parts. No stripped down version. I don't blame Sony for stripping it down, I blame the consumers. They want everything for nothing. Now that its finally cheaper people should stop complaining, you get what you pay for and it is quite obvious a lot of people wanted less.
