Why You Should Buy a Satellite Radio

K

I remember laying in the sun as a teenager, listening to my transistor radio. Frankie Valli, Hall & Oats, The Eagles...all bring back wonderful memories when times were simpler and all I had to worry about was my tan. Often I wished for a moment back in time where I could relive one of those days of my youth by listening to a radio station that played that moment in time. Perhaps a day that I could listen to the songs I heard in high school; Billy Idol, Thompson Twins, Moody Blues, etc. All of this is possible now with satellite radio such as XM or Sirius.

Sure, some stations play classic hits but with satellite radio I choose the station I want to listen to at that moment. Perhaps I want to listen to 70's for a few minutes and then switch it to heavy metal the next! Maybe I want to hear a comedy show or a traffic report in New York City (just because I can). With satellite radio, the choices seem almost endless. No matter who is riding with me in the vehicle, I can please everyone. If my mom is along, I might listen to country or easy listening. If my husband is with me, it's new heavy rock and if I'm alone, I'm switching channels faster than a teenage boy on a sugar rush. Also, if you live in a town where you don't seem to get the newest hits till long after the rest of the country has heard them, now you can!

Now you can get a satellite radio for as low as $20! They were somewhat higher when they first came out but prices have dropped a bit. You do have to get a subscription to the satellite radio provider of your choice but it's well worth it. Those subscriptions typically run between $10-12 per month and usually the provider you choose will have a special to offer.

Here's the fun part; no commercials and I can take an entire road trip without ever having to change the station! That's because the signal is beamed from space instead of from a radio station, which typically only transmits for 30-40 miles. You get a crystal clear signal no matter where you are.

I have listened to both systems and while I have Sirius in my vehicles and love it, I have enjoyed listening to XM online. Both offer unique stations. Sirius has Hair Nation, which is all hair metal, usually from the 80's. You can hear Slaughter, Poison, Motley Crue, you name it! XM has a station that offers a station with one hit wonders, which I really enjoyed as well! Both have unique talk show hosts such as Howard Stern, Martha Stewart, Playboy Radio, NASCAR, etc. When choosing a system, both are well equipped to do the job so I would look at the station line-up to see which one is the perfect fit for me. Installation isn't that hard but if you're intimidated, you can usually have the store you made your purchase from install the system for you for a nominal charge. (Usually around $50).

Overall, satellite radio has the potential to make your driving experience fun again! Not to mention the reminiscence of your youth!

At those prices I'd buy a satellite radio - but I don't have a car! Great info - can't wait to own one.
