Why Caffeine May Suppress Your Libido

Diet and Nutrition

Caffeine is a common ingredient in our foods and beverages - in fact, so common that we often do not even think about the harm it may due to our bodies. If you are having trouble with a decline in your libido, it may be prudent to inquire about the risk that caffeine poses and how removal of the ingredient from your diet may improve your sex life.

A fluctuating libido, for both men and women, is a common part of our human development and often can be directly associated with hormonal imbalances. In some cases, however, the cause of libido decline can be directly impacted by your dietary intake and, by making a few changes, the complication can be spontaneously resolved. When suffering from a decline in your libido, it is important to start with a modification to your diet and this will include reducing, or eliminating, your caffeine intake.

Caffeine is considered a safe product by the FDA but it does cause a variety of health complications to worsen over time. As a product that excites the nervous system, many adults take in large amounts of caffeine daily in an effort to combat fatigue and brain fog. However, once the caffeine begins to wear off, there can be a sudden drop in neurological function and, ultimately, this can impact your ability to engage in intimacy with your significant other.

If you have a decline in libido, start by reducing or eliminating your caffeine intake as much as possible. Do not replace your caffeine with other high sugary or carbonated beverages but, instead, utilize water as your key source of hydration. In doing so, you are giving your nervous system a much needed break from the excitatory response it is exposed to with caffeine consumption and, this, ultimately will improve your libido over time. After 30 days of caffeine elimination if your libido is not improved, then seek out medical attention.

Libido, like many other healthy physiological responses, can be directly impeded by our lifestyle choices. If you have any type of physiological complication that can not be explained by poor diet and lack of exercise, always seek out medical attention immediately. If, however, you consume large amounts of caffeine daily, you may be surprised at how well your body responds by elimination of this daily ingredient.
