Coffee does not last long. The typical caffeine buzz that may or may not give you some artificial stimulation only lasts for a maximum of two hours. So if you are working for nine hours a cup of coffee will give you a caffeinated jolt of stimulation for two hours and then you will be suffering through the crash for the next seven hours. Typical symptoms of this crash will be lethargy, headaches, and nausea. The more you drink the more severe the crash will be. Crashing will also destroy your sleep cycles. Since caffeine alters the chemistry of your brain it will either make you oversleep or undersleep depending on your reaction and when you were drinking caffeine.
Another negative side effect of caffeine is dehydration. This is due to the drug's ability to increase your rate of urination. What this means is that you will be losing fluids at a greater rate and thus will end up feeling dehydrated rather rapidly. Dehydration can lead to irritability, headaches, nausea, and stomachaches.
If you feel like you are drowsy or have problems with sleep. Go ask your doctor! He will probably recommend you change your diet and nutrition. A greater intake of vitamin C, vitamin B, and vitamin B12 will do wonders for you mood and alertness. I am not a doctor by any means but I know there are herbal shops all across the country that can increase you awareness and clarity much more effectively than caffeine.
