1. It has a lot of Islamic architecture. Islamic architecture encompasses many styles, to include both religious and secular works. The architecture in Cairo is both modern and ancient. Many of the works in this city contain calligraphy, the beautiful form of writing that has been used in Islam for many, many years. Towers and domes are also a common theme that you will find throughout the architecture in Cairo. Perhaps the most beautiful thing of all is the tessellations and repetitive geometric patterns found in the buildings in Cairo.
2. It is within close proximity to the Great Sphinx and the pyramids. The pyramids and the Great Sphinx, which are what Egypt is most famous for, are located in nearby Giza. These are both amazing to see and if you are anywhere in Africa or the Middle East, I would encourage you to go to Giza to see these wonders. So, it's even better if you are in Cairo, where you are close to Giza.
3. Cairo has many other tourist attractions. Cairo, being the largest urban area in Africa, and the eleventh largest urban area in the world, has many sites to see. It's metro is ranked among the 15 busiest metros in the world and is currently the only metro transit system in Africa. Cairo is also home to the oldest and largest film and music industries of the Arab world. If you are there while the Cairo International Film Festival is taking place, you should definitely go, as it is just spectacular. There is also the Cairo Opera House to be sure to see while you are there. Also, you can see the National Cultural Center, which was built with the help of the Japan International Co-operation Agency. This Cultural Center is a symbol of the friendship between Japan and Egypt. Don't forget to see the Egyptian Museum, which has the largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts in the world. The Cairo Tower is an interesting site to see. It is a freestanding TV tower that is taller than the Great Pyramid of Giza. It is located on the island of Gezira, in the Nile River. Which brings me to another good thing to see, the Nile River. It is the largest river in the world and really cool to see. I would make it a point to visit there during your stay in Cairo.
There are many other things to do and see while visiting Cairo. Be sure to check out the area and do some research before you go to ensure that you get to see all the wonderful sites that you would like to see.
