I don't know about you but I for one will NEVER be owned by my makeup and I must admit that a little blush has never helped me excel in a video game. (Mascara, maybe - but never blush!)
Now, if they create an MMO called "World of Hookers" or "ClownCraft" or even "EverBeauty" then perhaps I will have to reconsider whether or not Rouge would be a valid class to play. But as it stands today, I have heard of absolutely no MMO in existence where it would benefit any player to be a rouge or to beat a rouge or even to need rouge in any way (unless your guild has some sort of makeup rule - Rule #1: Only he who wears blush may raid).
I understand that not all gamers are professional writers or literature students or even college educated. Heck, some of them are not even high school educated but how many times are we going to misspell rogue before it becomes common knowledge?
I mean, I try to have a bit of patience when it comes to spelling and typing errors. I understand it's hard to focus on grammar while you're slaying beasts, fighting dragons, trekking across treacherous lands and all that.
I can even overlook the typos and I'm getting use to most of the "leet-speak" (although I have yet to figure out how or why "QQ" came to stand for cry-cry). I've even been known to hurriedly type t-e-h instead of the and typically, I don't waste time correcting myself. But this one thing still just makes me nuts, especially when it happens by someone who is playing a rogue.
So why do so many people misspell this word? My theory is that the word has too many vowels in it. I mean seriously, all those o's and u's and e's can get a bit confusing, I'm sure. So I suppose it's a forgivable offense. Or maybe it's the game's fault. Perhaps MMO's finally have started to deteriorate our brains just like the media and our mothers always said they would. I guarantee if there was a spelling bee that contained all profanities we gamers would come out on top, however.
What I cannot understand, no matter how hard I try, is people who play rogues that misspell the word. Come on guys, it's on your character screen and it's on your character menu. Heck, in some games it's right above your head on your screen at all times and yet you still misspell it.
You probably look at it every single day at least once, if not more. And look at how many times and instances within the game that you encounter the word! What about when you visit your rogue trainer? You'd think some of these people would learn by osmosis but no, that'd be too easy.
Instead they wander about fantasy worlds all over cyberspace complaining about how makeup was nerfed or why rouge never gets invited to a group. I swear every time I see that word misspelled, I get another grey hair. Please, spare my lovely locks and learn to spell! It's R-O-G-U-E.

Post a CommentYou're so right about this! I hate it whenever someone mispells "rogue" in-game. I just try my best to ignore it if it's from a stranger, I try to correct everyone I know.
Pretty sure I heard somewhere, that "QQ" came from the RTS Warcraft games, where Alt-Q caused you to leave a match.
Where can I learn more about this "modern day term"? Is there some sort of club I can join? Does membership include a free Idiot's Dictionary and Guide to Maintaining Your Rightness Even When You Clearly Fail? :p
What's even worse than someone misspelling rogue, is when they argue with you that it's rouge, AND the Blizzard went with the "modern day term...and a lot of people complain about it." So my questions to them are "We aren't modern?" and "Where the hell do you get your info?!"
Oh, so you missed the Everquest Shadows of Luclin manual where they put a map of the city complete with the "rouge" guild....
QQ could quite possibly be the fact that the circles represent eyes and the line coming down are tears. I've never quite saw that and c'mon, you know the average gamer couldn't spell their name without stumbling.
I haven't heard QQ before (I keep WoW at arm's length) but it obviously looks like two eyes crying.
