Why Can't You Love Me?

Olga L. Chacon
You want me to disappear
like smoke
leaving nothing but
ashes in your womb.

If only you knew,
I have feelings too.
Why can't you love me
like a mother should?

Don't you want
to bake a cake,
light up candles
for me every year,
dress me up in pink dresses,
buy new dolls for me on Christmas Eve,
pick up Easter eggs with me,
see me ride my bike,
push my swing in the park,
buy crayons
and coloring books for me?

Don't you, don't you?
