Could it be that the problem is not in knowing what to do but avoiding doing it? Most people know that they gain weight because they over consume fats and under exercising. We also know that obesity can be genetic and medication induced or illness induced. Certain medication will make our body secret more sugar, retain more water and fats. Some illness can make us secrete more stress hormone that makes us fat, some illness can decrease our metabolism and make us retain fats.
In order to lose weight, we must first understand clearly why we gain weight and how we can lose them. Weight loss product over night and pills are not that effective and can cause many health problems and is only temporary. We need to attack the issue permanently. I have witness some women who lose around 70 lbs and kept it for years. Yes! It can be done.
Weight is control by metabolism and if metabolism shows down then we gain weight and if metabolism go up then we lose weight. Metabolism is the process of chemical breakdown or nutrient breakdown in our body and using it for energy or storing it for a later time. Metabolism is affected by many factors that are controllable or uncontrollable by us. Metabolism is decrease with age, like at 30 years old. It is decreased with illness and lack of physical activity. Slow metabolism can be inherited by gene. We can control physical activity and food and intake but we can't control aging factor, genetic factor or medication and illness factors.
After we understand metabolism and weight gain methods we can now take each piece apart and try to change our weight. We must leave the uncontrollable factor alone because there's not much I can do about genetic or illness induces factors. The first piece that we can work on is controlling food intake and especially fatty food intakes.
We must also watch our calories and the time we eat. Everyone has different caloric needs and we must stick with our numbers and not over taking calories. We have to cut down fatty food and eat lean and healthy food like protein, fruits and vegetables.
We hear from time and time again to stay away from fatty food to help us lose weight; however, some individuals have a hard time staying away from McDonald's and sugary food. If you keep consuming fatty and sugary food, how do expect to lose weight? Then commit yourself to cutting down fats and sugary items. Stay away from oily fries items and eat grilled or boil or bake items. Stay away from sweets, sugar is the number one weight gainer agent. Next, you must choose healthy food such as fruits and vegetables and proteins. Choose to bake, boil or grill your food not frying it to stay away from fatty oil.
Counting calories, controlling food intake are two important methods to losing weight. Next is eating the right portion at the right time of the day. We have to eat small portion each time consistently throughout the day instead of starving ourselves at breakfast and then eating three times as much at dinner. We must eat during the day and stop eating around 6pm to allow burning of calories. If we eat at night, our metabolism slow down because we don't move too much and food don't get processed.
Next we must increase our physical activity in order to increase our metabolism. Most Americans sit at their desk to work all day long and then when they go home they sit again. They don't exercise that much and that counts for the majority of weight gain and weight retention. Therefore, we must take every opportunity we can to move our body.
For example, we can take the stairs instead of the elevator; we can park farther and walk to our office. We can ride a bike to work instead of driving if it's nearby. We can take a long walk on our lunch break or break. We can stretch sitting at our desk. We can walk our dog or play with or kids. You can find a hobby or social event that require moving and stick to it. I love to play tennis or going out to dance. I love to run or run with my dog. Find a hobby and stick to it. It will work longer than just exercising. We won't give up as fast with our hobby. Some people are addicted to their hobby and that helps keeping the weight off.
Some supplements or food can help us lose weight, for example, multivitamin and minerals can help in increasing our metabolism. Our body really does need extra help from supplements; it is not all that mighty by themselves. You can consult with your doctor about the right supplements for you. Do you know that eating lots of grapefruit help you lose weight too? I notice that it increase my metabolism very fast. Drinking natural green tea and coffee can also decrease your appetite. I personally have experience great results with supplements, grapefruit, green tea and coffee.
Most importantly is cutting down on food intake and increasing our physical activity. We must remember that our body work very hard to break down all the food and if we over ingest, this is quick to make us gain weight. Also lack in physical activity can make us flabby and slow down our metabolism. Remember to move a lot and eat less unhealthy food.
