Why Capcom Should Port Resident Evil 5 to the Nintendo Wii

Otter
Resident Evil 5 is currently the biggest game on the market. Like many of the big third-party titles before, the game was only released for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The lure of high-definition graphics and advance online systems is simply too great to ignore for some gaming companies.

However, Capcom is certainly missing out on a golden opportunity by not porting Resident Evil 5 to the Nintendo Wii. Here is a few reason why this is the case.

Nintendo Gamecube Presence

It is certainly surprising to see Capcom ignoring the Nintendo Wii with Resident Evil 5. This is because they were strong supporters of the Nintendo Gamecube. In addition to porting all the previous main titles, Capcom also give the Nintendo Gamecube Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil Remake and Resident Evil 4. Therefore, Capcom should continue their legacy by releasing Resident Evil 5 on the Nintendo Wii.

Fan Base Already Established on the Nintendo Wii

Despite not releasing Resident Evil 5 on the Nintendo Wii, Capcom is already bombarding the system with Resident Evil titles. In a little over two years, they have released Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. In addition, they also released ports of Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil Remake in Japan. Finally, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles will be released on the Nintendo Wii in late 2009. With so much already devoted to the system, it doesn't make any sense for Capcom to not release Resident Evil 5 on the Nintendo Wii.

Down Porting

Resident Evil 5 on the Nintendo Wii will obviously come with some concessions as the system isn't nearly as powerful as the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. However, that hasn't stop Capcom before. Earlier this year, they released Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, a downgraded Nintendo Wii port of the Xbox 360 game.

Since Resident Evil 5 isn't all that different from its prequel, Capcom can theoretically use the Resident Evil 4 engine and keep the gameplay intact. So while it may not look as sharp or sport as much detail as the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, Resident Evil 5 will still be an excellent game on the Nintendo Wii.

User Base

Finally, it is hard to ignore the user base of the Nintendo Wii. It is by far the best-selling video game system currently and is on pace to break numerous records. In fact, the Nintendo Wii might even outsell the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 combined. By not porting Resident Evil 5 to the Nintendo Wii, Capcom won't be able to tap this vast market of gamers.Capcom is already bombarding the Nintendo Wii with Resident Evil titles.Capcom can theoretically use the Resident Evil 4 engine and keep the gameplay intact. The Nintendo Wii might even outsell the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 combined.

I bought the Wii because of RE4. But since Wii wouldn't give us RE5 and now that PS3 came out with RE5 and has the move capability....WHO NEEDS THE Wii??

I absolutely loved RE4. They could come out with RE5 on Wii and just change the story line and maybe add a few new characters to satisfy the population. But no...they won't! And all their other games are complete crap. So guess what?? I gave my Wii away and bought a PS3. I learned my lesson to stay away from junk.

if they made a resident evil 4 on wii why not make the resident evil 5 on wii? I mean they can just change the graphics a little and maybe make 2 discs for 2 parts, some peole cant afford ps3 or xbox 360s.

After seeing Capcom release 'Dead Rising CTUD' and then playing it I was left feeling disappointed. I know that the Wii is capable of more but I think Capcom has other ideas for the Wii. There's another RE light gun game coming out at the end of 2009 and they are porting over two RE Gamecube games soon this year.

Yes I enjoyed playing RE4 Wii edition and I felt that the Wii controls did add to the game but I also felt that RE4 Wii edition didn't really push the system as much as RE4 did on either the Gamecube or PS2. I just don't think Capcom want to put the time and money into this project.

If RE5 ever came over to the Wii please Capcom make sure that the team behind Dead Rising CTUD is nowhere near that project.

Sorry to say this but even as a Wii owner I don't want RE5 to come out if they cut as many corners as they did on Dead Rising.

RE5 doesn't need a WiiMote waggle. The wii just isn't a gaming system, its a casual gammers system, and core games have no place on it. It doesn't work. Now if nintendo would see the wii and ds for the mistakes they are maybe they could get back to the core gaming and actually be in the same market as the PS3 and 360. Though the likely hood of this isn't gonna happen because grannies and small children keep shelling out for em. Its sad.

    Re5 for the Wii =)

  • Zane has no idea 4/6/2009

Zane, you may want to go look up some facts. The Wii has more than 24MB of Ram. You want to bash the Wii like a fanboy? Fine. But at least get your facts straight so it's less obvious. Please? kthxby

    @zane
I hate the idiots who think graphics are everything.Graphics are not how you should judge a game. It could have bad graphics(by today's standards) yet still get a 10/10 on every single review if the gameplay is good enough.
Would you rather play a crappy game with excellent graphics or the best game of all time but it has n64 style graphics?

  • zane 3/29/2009

wow this is the stupidest idea ever not only does the wii have a craptastic video card it only has 24mb of RAM res 5 on the wii would be terrible the wii cant support the ammount of things in the game and all thats going on at the same time it would be better if it was top-down or something with the res 5 storyline
