Why Do Cats Get Angry?

Sophie Spyrou
Cats can be hard to work out at times. But it is easy to spot an angry cat. It will meow in a loud, angry tone and it will be more likely to misbehave. This article will look into some of the main reasons why cats get angry and what you can do to keep your furry friend happy.

Litter Tray

Cats are well known as clean animals. They take great pride in preening themselves and keeping themselves scrupulously clean. If you own an inside cat, you must ensure that its litter tray is kept clean, or else you could have an an angry cat to deal with. Do not wait a week to clean and change the cat litter inside the litter tray. By then, the environment will smell and will be very unpleasant for you and for your cat to be around. So do not be surprised if your cat follows you around and meows angrily. It is pleading with you to clean its litter tray. Clean it and change it out every two days or so. You might not have to clean it as often. But keep an eye on it and make sure that your cat's litter tray is clean.

Stale Water

A good cat owner would never knowingly forget to water their cats each day. But some cat owners forget to provide fresh water each day for their cats. Cats are fussy about the quality of their water. It does not have to be filtered water for them to drink it. Clean tap water will suffice. But most cats will turn their noses up at stale water that has been sitting in their water bowl for two days or more. By that time it will not be appealing to them. Would you want to drink stale water?

Empty Food Bowl

Cats base their sense of security on four important factors, their litter tray, food, water and owners. If they find that their food bowl is empty, they will lose some sense of security and if you are slow to re-fill their food bowl they will become angry and start pestering you to resolve their problem. So the next time your cats follow you around angrily meowing at the top of their lungs do not assume that they are simply misbehaving. Check to see if they have enough food in their food bowl and be quick to replenish their food supply. You will be thanked for it and the meowing will stop.

The next time your cat appears angry, check these three factors. Most problems can be quickly resolved if cats have a clean litter tray as well as fresh food and water.

Nice article Sophie. My cat is normally grouchy, lol. She just doesn't like anyone picking her up.

This is so interesting. I'm not much of a cat person, but they are little creatures of infinite personality.

Our cats use their paws to grab us as we are walking out of the room if we walk by an empty food bowl they want filled.

What a wonderful article, I loved. All of these are exactly right. My cats can also get angry if they do not feel weel, get moody and get irritated by other cats, noises or people. :-)
