Even if you have to buy one, cats are inexpensive to obtain. If you live in a rural area, people usually give them away. You might also try the humane society or an animal shelter. However, if you want a cat with a pedigree, you might have to pay a bit for it. But, they are worth it to have a loving companion.
Cats may be cheap to obtain and feed, but they are not cheap when it comes to benefits. They provide great companionship. They are also a source of amusement with their antics and playfulness. Cats can fit into even small apartments. They are also perfect for people who work outside the home. Cats do not require constant attention. Just leave them food, water, some toys, and a litter box and they are set until you get home from work.
People of any age will benefit from having a cat around. Elderly people will be delighted to have the company of a sweet cat. And, young people can benefit from having something to take care of. Since cats are not very demanding, they are perfect starter pets for children. They also do not cost as much as even a fish. They do not need the tanks or special equipment that is needed to keep a fish healthy.
Cats have different ideas about being pets than dogs do. They never give up their individuality. If you want to have a good relationship with your cat, do not treat it as if it is your possession. Try treating it as a house guest or friend. A friend that is choosing to spend time with you. Of course you will have to set up boundaries and stick to them. Such as places in your home where you do not want the cat and other similar rules. But, other than being treated with respect and a little food and water, your cat will not ask much in return.
Unlike dogs, cats will give their affection only if it is earned. They will not stay with owners who abuse them out of some sense of loyalty. Given the chance, they will get away as soon as possible, when they are abused. But, they are also smart enough to see respect and affection in people and respond in kind.
Cats are loving companions when treated with respect and love. They are easy to take care of and do not ask for much in return for their companionship. All they ask for is to be treated fairly, just like anyone else you would like to have as a friend.
