Why Celebrities Fall Off Their Pedestal

With Britney Spears shaving her head, going into rehab for a day and seeming like she is on the verge of a breakdown, I have to wonder why some celebrities seem to crash and burn. With all the money and power that they have, why does it seem like they are unhappier than ever?

My belief is that at the core issue of their problems is privacy, plain and simple. It is easy for us to sit and judge and say that they are public figures and have no right no privacy, but how is that fair? We could look at the pictures in the magazine, videos on the internet and the many different celebrity shows that are on TV but until we are in their shoes we have absolutely no idea what their lives are like or what they really go through on a daily basis.

I love my alone and would go crazy without it. Who among us doesn't like a little time to ourselves? When you look at a celebrity they have none. They can't go out to the movies or shopping or even walk down the street without a camera being turned in their direction. We see all these images of them doing "real thing", but what we usually don't see is that there are a hundred people chasing them with video cameras and long lenses shoved in their face.

They have to be perfectly coiffed even if they just have to run out and buy toilet paper because someone somewhere will eventually snap their picture and it will be on the front cover of a magazine will huge letters calling them a slob, a bum and a slew of other hateful words.

A celebrity gets some bodyguards and they are viewed as thinking to highly of themselves, when they are actually smart. It is because they are public figures that they need protection. While the average person is likely to only hurt them with words, there are sick individuals who would like to do harm to the very person they profess to love.

Becoming a celebrity also means trying to figure out who you can trust. You are on TV and suddenly you have a lot of friends. Family you didn't even know about suddenly lays claim to you and wants a handout. They rightly reject these people and they see a story about how they turned their back on their family. Celebrity magazines are filled with lies that are easily believed. We wonder why so many of them seem to always be right about forecasting a celebrity breakup? Well why don't we take a closer look. If it is a high profile thing like Ben and Jlo then you will notice that literally hundreds of magazines claim each week that they have broken up. This can and do go on for years, so when they do split people tend to only remember that a magazine said so, but they don't recall that the same magazines were wrong for months and even years.

The bottom line is we are all human beings and when you are criticized every minute of everyday, called names, hounded by photographers and simply overwhelmed, who are we to say that we too might not crack under pressure?
